Porcelain - Remix
Hello
I just finished my first remix. I'm a very newbie to remixing and in general music producing. What do think about and what can I do better...or much better . Any kind of feedback would be cool.

Thx in advance and best regards.

Hey man,
welcome to the forums!
Just gave this a listen, overall it sounds very good, but it is veeery similar to the original version in my opinion. I kept waiting for something to change but it didn't, maybe it was your plan to just make small changes, I don't know.
I'm looking forward to hear more from you in the future!

hey!
thx for your comment.
well...i think it's relative
for me it have some changes...but liked you said not like a typical remix. i dont like these typical electro remixes...best example is the newiest from black eyed peas (dirty bit)...i wanted that so still can hear the groove of the original porcelain but just a little bit more club-style.

I liked it in parts, i love how you have tried to keep the original groove, but where you were filtering it it kind of killed it a little for me. As you said and i love that you aint went for that big electro sound what is mainstream, you have stuck to the original groove of the track and respect for that, its your take on the track at the end of the day. I always stick to the basics of a track im remixing, i want people to know what it is, but put my spin on it when im remixing it. Here is a few of mine to get your head round, and you will see i dont come off the basics, but still turn the track into my own by changing just the speed the beat and a few other things within a track.

hey paul
thx for your post.
we understand us. i like your mixes. it's not like the typical remixes.
...i have to try this soundcloud to. much better than youtube.
i have remastered the track because it sound sometimes, like you said, really quite. thx for the feedback.
another question: when is a track a remix and when is it a "self-production". a small tv-channel here asked me for the track and I said that is not possible because of the license of the artist. but is this really like that?

The thing is with a remix you have to get permission to put it out there, i have done a remix of snow patrol's ''shut you eyes'' and have had amazing response with regards to the track, but i cant do nothing with it unless i ask the record label for permission. I did this as part of my hnd in sound production, so i got all the samples of the track straight from the band so im in a sticky situation, i cant just fire it out there as it would get back to my college and they wouldnt get any more tracks to work with.
But as your not tied down to anyone then i would give it to them, if they wish to use the track then they would have to contact moby's record label and ask for permission. All you have done is remake a version of a classic track, and your not trying to sell it or anything so your not doing anything wrong, if they wish to use it then they will have to go down the proper channels.

ok I understand. but the question is...when is it still a "remix" or a self production. example: you take a sample of 2-3 seconds (or more) from a music track, edit and distort as hell and it's still an remix even if it's totally sounds different?
