Default The EDM Key library for harmonic mixing

    Hey guys,
I've just started to sort all my tunes based on Key to quickly see which tunes could potentially go side by side without sounding like the avarage american Idol audition. I'm updating this list weekly and I'll keep on updating this post. Use it if you'd like. There may be some single mistakes but all in all its very accurate!

Like i said, I have only just begun doing this, and haven't really had time to finish, so the list is pretty meager as of now. Feel free to post your own libraries if you have any!

Most songs are around 126-129 BPM

I've learned all the music theory words and stuff in Swedish, going to try to explain this in english though.

    How to use it:

The song in each section are in the same key, they will be able to blend into each other harmonically.
Note that there are always exceptions to this, and some tracks have melodies that clash into the incoming tracks melody, odd kicks and whatnot.

Tracks in each section can also be mixed with tracks from the section above and the section below, because they are in parallel scales. There might be clashing notes here and there but in general it works and sounds...harmonical.

Again, these are only guidelines, there's no guarantee that a song in the same key will sound good with another one from the same key.

http://www.mixshare.com/ also has key info and a lot of other info free of charge, and a nice little program that can key your tracks called Rapid Evolution.

Why would I want some software which some costs heap of money when I can use the ears evolution gave me. It's a great musical practise too! Love taking shortcuts usually, but in this case I really like to rely on myself.

Time is money, so in essence, keying all the tracks yourself isn't free either. I understand the DIY mentality and the musical practice aspect, but when you have thousands of tracks, sometimes it just doesn't make sense to do it all the long way. Not a dig, just my opinion.

Also with Rapid Evolution, it pretty accurately detects the mode that the song is in as well as the key.

Even if you have perfect pitch, the ears evolution gave you will not enable you to easily identify those 1/6 of tracks that are harmonically compatible. This enables you to be 6X as productive in evaluating compatible mixes. Using other filters, such as BPM, genre, and age, further enhances your productivity.

Yup all that true, but I still can't look away from the fact that using this method has given me some sweet mash ups and cool transitions that I would never ever have thought of otherwise. Like around 6:20 - 9:ish on this mix http://soundcloud.com/patient267/el-toro-grande-267-mix

This method works nicely for me, it points me some directions of things to try, it is guide lines, not rules. Anyway, just wanted to share my library if someone else wanted to use it for their own personal use, wasn't a post on weather you should use harmonic mixing or not.
