Mapping General recorder to Shift+Footswitch
Hi guys!
I've been surfing this site A LOT while waiting for my S4 to arrive, but this is my first post.
I've been playing with it for two or three days now, and it works flawlessly on my mac. Everything is what I expected to be, no issues whatsoever.
First of all, I'm new to traktor and all the controllerism thing, I used to have a pair of CDJ and a mixer. I had a VCI-100 but never got used to it. S4 is just what I needed.
I'm messing with a footswitch and the loop recorder and it works like a charm. I was wondering if it was possible to map the general traktor recorder to Shift+Footswitch to make quick recordings on some passages I like while I'm practising and check them out later, without having to touch the trackpad.
I've been trying to do so but I can't figure it out. What do you think? is it possible? Do you think is useful?
Thanks in advance! Cheers from Barcelona!

you would need to make a special mapping that takes input from all controllers and have the s4 in midi mode (can't build a hybrid map). it's the only way i know of to share modifiers across multiple devices

Ok, thanks. No luck then, since I want to stick to NHL for the moment.
Thx a lot!

Sure you can do it. Off the top of my head I think you would need to create a user S4 mapping and map the foot switch to record. I think I would map that to toggle so you could press it to record then press again to stop. You could also map it to hold if you wanted to hold down the foot switch and then let go to stop recording. At the same time you'll need to map a loop recorder start recording function to the foot switch to stop it from recording.

Add a shift modifier to the user mapping and it'll work so that when you hold shift and press the foot switch the main Traktor recorder comes on, but when you just press the foot switch the the loop recorder activates.

I love you. You're the greatest man on earth.
Let me have lunch since I'm starving and about to pass out in front of the S4 and then test it.

May be you one of you guys could help me please as I didn't find the answer by myself:
I got a BossF5SL but it doesn't work properly with my unit (actually my loop recorder button does act strangely anyway but that's another subject may be).
My questions are:
- are you supposed to set it up especially? Mine needs to be pushed twice each time I want to go from off to on and the other way round. Like internally in the S4 it has been set up as a toggle button and not as a gate one.
- I coped with that by creating a single line user mapping with loop recorder on/off set to hold using the foot switch message. Is that what I'm supposed to do? Sounds weird? I thought it was plug and play but may be that was a false idea of mine
- If I need to do it that way (include an additional function), does that mean that the first time you record with the loop recorder, you have to stop the recorder yourself when it reach the size length you decided - unless the S4 does that automatically- ? As if I don't, I'll have once again to push twice the foot switch to get my control back.
What am I doing wrong here? Thanks in advance for any help.

The FS-5l is a latch type that acts like a toggle in Traktor. You really want the FS-5U which a momentary or hold type switch.
