    Default TinyXP

Right after a month or so with the S4 im still having trouble getting it to work flawlessly on my dell inspiron 6400. I have tried pretty much every tweak I can find but still get audio pops and cpu spikes when using traktor S4.

My system is an old machine (2gb ram, 80gb HDD, 1.6 c2d processor) but i'm thinking that Vista is probably the main culprit for the poor performance. Therefore i'm thinking of keeping the Vista partition (for my work etc) and dual booting it with TinyXP (purely for Traktor use). Has anybody got any experience of this? I've got the beast edition. Anybody used this with traktor before? The main reason for me using tinyxp is the small ram usage but would xp pro work better?

    thanks in advance

XP is GREAT for audio. TinyXP is pretty good for a trimmed down OS. Never tried a TinyXP install for Traktor - but I got a REALLY trimmed down XP install for Ableton Live, and the performance is awesome.

i had an inspiron 6400 before it died. never did tiny xp on that machine, but i did have vista on there. vista is a pig on that laptop, don't be fooled by the palm rest sticker that says vista capable!!! i used to run traktor pro and ableton on the 6400 using a bloated version of xp (last xp) before i installed vista and it ran perfect with my audio2 / vci100 combo.

i can only imagine tinyXP being as good or better as there'es nothing bogging it down and only has the generic bare minimum of drivers.

other than installing your S4's drivers, you may need to install the ATI Raedeon GPU drivers (if yours has one installed, mine did) and maybe a driver for the network adaptor if you plan on putting tinyXP on the net.

Tiny XP works great with audio...I say you'll have better results with Tiny XP.

Thanks for the help. I think i'm going to do a fresh install of win7 because im sick of Vista then try a dual boot of tinyxp purely for traktor. Hope this works!
