First ever stab at Ableton/Reason - ANY comments welcomed, good or bad!

I've spent past couple of days having a stab at Reason and Ableton. Having never used neither really before, I took the two days out for the steep learning curve (bare in mind I couldn't warp tracks, rewire, even work out put my clips into Ableton arrangement view and get them to play!).

My intention was to throw myself into it by creating a remix of Martin Solveig's track "Hello".

Just finished some of the song and this is where I'm up to so far. Planning to finish it overnight, if my brick wall gets out of my way and let some creativity through! At the moment, it kind of sounds like two different songs!

For drums I use Kong within a combinator in Reason with some EQing, line mixers, effects etc and had it rewired into Ableton along with some layered audio loops for hats etc. Basses were a mixture of Massive in Ableton and Thor/Subtronic wth effects etc rewired from combinators within Reason and there's also a Kong pad set up with random samples and effects too. Also used a variety of filters (especially on guitar loop) as well as free VSTs like dBlue Glitch etc. Nothing has been "mixed" or mastered yet either.

Anyway, any comments appreciated as this is my first attempt at remixing, first attempt at something that's hopefully down the line towards dubstep, first time using Ableton and first time using Reason! I don't make things easy for myself! Anything good or bad, have a pop

One thing! (You probably know already) When you Rewire Reason with Ableton, keep all your levels really low, so you give yourself headroom within Ableton. If you want, you can route the 1/2 output of Ableton(Or whatever track you have your recording) through an analog mixing board and back into the Ableton on the 3/4 input (or which ever input is free). But, if you're staying strictly in box, keep your levels low so you can play with the gain in Ableton. If you record your tracks to loud, you run the risk of distortion when you volume maximize your mix with a mastering plugin or by other means. Another that will help is to route your tracks from the 1/2 output from reason through your mixer so you have more control over the dynamics or use a midi controller. But yeah, those are some things that have worked with me since I started using both together three years ago.

P.S. If you the EQ inside Reason before the recording, try to keep off the EQ in Ableton or whatever program you Rewired Reason to. If you don't EQ inside Reason, then by all means EQ in the host program. If you have more questions, just let me know. I also use Reason Record. You should check that out!
