Arrow The Ultimate X1 2-Deck Mixer Mapping

Okay, so heres the basic run down of the layout.

I didn't change any of the mapping for the bottom 16 buttons at all, so they remain exactly the same for all hot cues, and transport controls.

I also left the 4 encoders completely alone, they do exactly what they do in the stock mapping.

So the changes begin with the 4 lateral buttons (FX1/FX2 Right and Left).

The shift control for these 4 buttons is exactly the same as the stock mapping.

    i.e.

Master Deck Select, Quantize, and Snap.

    These are all the same.

Okay, so now to the changes.

FX1 (left side) is now basically a shift key, with an LED to show you when it is enabled.

FX2 (left side) toggle headphone cue deck A

FX1 (right side) toggle headphone cue deck B

FX2 (right side) is the other extra shift key, same deal with the LED feedback.

The extra shift buttons are mutually exclusive.

i.e. if the left shift button is on, the right shift button wont respond, and vice versa, to avoid control conflicts.

And vise versa for the right shift button.

Okay now moving up to the 8 buttons and knobs that make up the top of the X1.

    Starting at the top:

The "top" control layer (no shift buttons)

The top two buttons are basically "transform" buttons for their respective decks (across my entire mapping, left is Deck A, right is Deck B).

If the button is dim and you press it, it shoves the volume fader up to 100%.

If the button is lit and you press it, it shoves the volume fader down to 0%.

This is intended for fast fader cuts.

The top two knobs are basic "rotary" volume faders, they control the volume faders for Deck A, and Deck B respectively.

The following three knobs beneath the top two are you mixers EQ knobs, set up for a 3 band EQ, Highs being the top, Mids in the middle, Lows on the bottom knob.

The button next to the corresponding EQ knob is the "kill" button for that EQ frequency.

The actual X1 shift layer only has 4 buttons on the top section. Everything else up there is un-bound under the stock shift layer.

    The four buttons are:

The left 1 and 2 buttons, and the right 1 and 2 buttons.

These buttons are the effect bank toggles for their respective decks.

    Okay.

Now for the FX2 (Right Side) shift layer.

When this button is LIT, indicating the shift layer is enabled, these are the resulting controls:

The top two buttons and knobs are still exactly the same: "transform" buttons, and volume fader knobs.

    Moving down...

The left "param1" knob is un-bound.
    This button remains "EQ Kill"

The right "param1" knob is Traktor master gain.
    This button remains "EQ Kill"

The left "param2" knob is Deck A gain.
    This button remains "EQ Kill"

The right "param2" knob is Deck B gain.
    This button remains "EQ Kill"

The left "param3" knob is Deck A filter.
    This button remains "EQ Kill"

The right "param3" knob is Deck B filter.
    This button remains "EQ Kill"

The left "FX2" button is the filter toggle for Deck A.

The right "FX1" button is the filter toggle for Deck B.

The main goal for this layer was to be able to manipulate the basic channel filter at the same time as manipulating the channel fader, allowing you to filter a track "in" or "out" of a mix.

As well as incorporate basic gain controls into the mapping.

I toyed with the idea of having the Monitor Mix, and Cue Volume controls where I currently have the Deck Gain controls...

The way I use the headphones to cue, I don't use any "monitor mix" and I set the Cue level, and generally leave it.

BUT, if this is important for you, and you use Traktors auto channel gain, then I would recommend changing the Channel gain knobs over to the cue mix, and level knobs.

    And lastly:

The FX1 (Left Side) shift layer:

This layer is an EXACT copy of the stock X1 effects mapping.

Its has a few *minor* changes.

The "chained" mode is EXACTLY the same as Traktors stock mapping, except there is no selection of certain effects via the stock shift button.

The "advanced" mode has a few changes.

The ability to select a specific effect for the bank via the stock shift button has been removed like in "chained".

The LED that fires when the "reset" button is pressed has been removed to fix an LED bug, but it still controls the "reset" button in Traktor.

The two effect buttons (other than the reset button) in the advanced FX bank have been changed from toggle, to hold, again to fix an LED bug.

One final note about the mapping:

The two extra shift buttons I added must use the "send monitor state" command (witch I have entered into the .tsi) witch updates the LED status to all controllers connected to Traktor.

When I JUST have the X1 hooked up, this NEVER causes an issue.

But in Windows installations, where additional controllers are added, this command is known to cause severe audio artifacts.

If you run a mac, there is no issue, hook up as many controllers as you like...

But I have found in the windows environment, if you are using "send monitor state" you are limited to X1's.

The reason I say you are limited to X1's, is that it is MIDI LED data that causes this.

The X1 when used in its Traktor specific mode does not use MIDI, it uses its own proprietary command structure, and is thus immune to this issue.

Let me know if you have any issues!

Really like the sound of this. Will try this when I get back from visiting the in-laws in Spain.

If it works like you say though I'll be mega impressed!

I am using my X1 with Traktor Pro 2. There are issues with the FX2 (Right Side) Shift Layer

    1. The FX2 (Right Side) shift layer could only be activated if the FX1 (Left Side) shift layer is already activated.

    2. The is no Deck A and B gain controls via "param2". "Param2" only gives me monitor mix and cue volume.

Filling out one of these: http://www.traktorbible.com/freaks/c...templates.aspx would make it a bit easier for people to get their heads round if you get the time.
