American Audio Radius 1000

I just found this on guitarcenter.com. Essentially it is a CDJ that has a dual mode so that you can play CD/MP3s and midi signal your computer at the same time. It's $400 USD. So I know nothing about American Audio, probably for a reason, but this seems like an awesome controller / Deck. Anyone know anything about it? The reason I was looking into this stuff is because (knock on wood) I have never had a computer crash during a set... But I know it WILL happen. Has happened during practice.

Yeah they all kind of look the same. I was looking more into it and every button on the Radius is also a midi signal out. Also the LEDs are midi in capable. Damn I would like this. It's new though and I don't know if they are made out of play dough and will fall apart in 1/2 year.

hit up a guitar center/sam ash and see if they have any in stock. If they do see if you can play with em. Do an A/B analysis with the CDJ400 and see what you think. Best way to find out.

I went to both and they sell the radius but neither had them in the store. Boo. i forgot all about the CDJ400 and it midi ableness. Hmm. I need to research more before all that spending of the money which I have little of. Do any of have any experience with any band CDJ that also has midi?

I've done my research, im going to buy a set of radius 3000's, have the ability to plug in an ipod or usb stick.
In either the case of the 1000 or 3000, i would certainly prefer to buy one instead of the cdj400 just because there is more bang for buck. It pretty much has most of the same function as the cdj 400 and can be fully midi mapped to traktor (not sure about any other programs)
Yes people might say its a CDJ-400 clone but that doesnt mean that it doesnt do the job just as good if not better.
but at the end of the day its your decision so i would go down and try them both out and make your choice then. as for me I would go fro the radius

I bought my cdj400s for this exact reason my friend... I have no regrets at all about it either. I got them used on ebay for 500 each. I thought of it this way... Use it via midi and cd during shows. If my laptop were to ever crash use it with an external hard drive for shows.... Can read thumb drives even. VEEEEEERY handy if someone wants to do a set on your gear. Tell them to make a thumb drive play list.

I just had to resurrect this thread. I have recently purchased a Radius 1000 to replace an old broken CD player. I didn't feel like spending pioneer money, so I did some research, and this one seemed to be an obvious choice.

As a CD player, it is doing it's job pretty good. Appearance is a bit plasticky, but it feels more solid than it looks. The jog wheel feels especially nice. Also works well with mp3 CDs. The quality of the effects is kind of average to sub-par. All in all, it is pretty good for the money.

As a MIDI controller, IT ROCKS!
First of all, I am only getting started, I only configured the basics so far. Browsing, transport, jog, loops, cues, that kind of stuff, plus some LED feedback. One Radius controls two decks. No modifiers so far.
And still, it works very well. Display doesn't do anything of course since it's midi and not HID, but I don't care much about that. What impressed me the most is the pitch fader resolution. I am actually able to adjust pitch in 0.01 BPM increments. Very, very handy! Every other controller I had or tried so far didn't do that (beware: my experiences are limited to an old Hercules console, a Total Control, a friend's unmodded VCI100 and my Otus).

The downside is that American Audio does not provide a proper TSI and I had to do most of the configuration myself. There is one TSI on the US website that is a pretty good start though.

I have to say I am so impressed that I actually think about getting rid of the otus.

Now let's just hope that this thing will last a while. As it's relatively new on the market, there's not much info about long term reliability. So far it feels and handles like a device that will last a while - fingers crossed!
