    Default Gemini SV-2200 Turntable

Hey all. This is one of my first posts, and I look forward to becoming active here, you guys all seem cool as hell.

I'm a noobie and looking to assemble some decent DJing/production equipment. Someone on Craigslist in my area is selling 2 Gemini SV-2200 turntables for $150. Is this worthwhile, or should I hold out and find something better? I've searched the forums and read what I've can about them, and they don't seem to be highly regarded. On the other hand, the price seems pretty nice. Thoughts?

    Thanks a million.

As you soon will learn, the more initial investment you dish out means the longer it lasts. Djing is expensive to get into, but as long as you pick up the right equipment and work hard the initial investment will eventually get payed back to you and then some.

I'd recommend 1.) Not buying off of craigslist unless you are 100% sure the seller is 100% legit and 100% not going to rape you. 2.) Check out reputable sellers for good prices on used items. For example check out Guitar Center's used DJ Gear Section. But make sure that if you do go this route, you ask to buy it in store so that you can try everything out to make sure it all works. There are some pretty ridiculous deals like a Numark Mixer for $10 and a set of Technics 1200 Turntables for just shy of $700.

Also when looking for Turntables make sure that they are direct drive. This means that there is no belt in the mixer that will stretch with extended use. If you want to get those Gemini's just to try things out and sell them for a similar price it might be a good call, but I'd honestly suggest that you consider dishing out a bit more than $150 on a good set of TTs because if you get the right ones they'll literally last you as long as your career as a DJ does. Good luck and I hope your chosen career path goes smoothly!
