    Default Denon DN X-600

    Hi Guys,

Well, I've been owning the Denon DN X-600 now for about two months and noticed the interest in the forums is quite high, but not a lot of info is on here.

I've bought this unit to get the best of both worlds: use it as a midi mixer controller next to my X1's and use the general Mixer functionality for everything non-digital.

As a mixer, the unit comes with a ton of options and certainly fits nicely. The feel of the faders and knobs is just excellent.

As a midi-controller I do have to warn you though: it doesn't fill my needs. It all starts with the fact you'll have to start up windows first and then turn on the mixer, otherwise no midi-signals will be sent. A weird little thing, but it does take away the feeling it's solid.

Furthermore, you can't map the LED's, opposed to the X1600. This seems like a small thing, but really presents you with quite a few challenges if you want to map all your functions to buttons that light up, even when the functions are of. This way you spend more time checking your laptop screen or figuring out workarounds to check if (for instance) a filter or key is turned on or off.

Unfortunately, not all the knobs are assignable. In fact, there's quite a lot of them you can't assign. All the gain knobs could seem logical, but the fader assign knobs and MIC knobs could can't be assigned either. That's a total of 3 knobs which could be assigned, next to the 5 gain knobs that are left out.

Okay so I am SERIOUSLY interested in this mixer.

I already have PLENTY of MIDI controllers, so I will just be using its Mixer/SoundCard/Send-Return Loop/Fully Selectable Input Matrix/Extra Aux Input....

I was wondering what your thoughts were on the general "color" of the mixers sound...

And also how the EQ's "sound".

Would be really grateful to hear any more feedback you might have!

I am mainly using it as a "midi controller" myself, but my friends hook it up as an external mixer (obviously).

Don't expect any really warm sounds from the EQ, they're pretty equal to eachother. I'm not an expert, but from the feeling i get the 3 bandwidths are cutting away a pretty equal part of a track.

But i'm not an expert and very used to using the xone internal mixer and assigning the low's to the low knob and the 2 mid's to 1 mid knob. this way i only take a way a small bandwidth when cutting away the low's and/ or highs. that's just the way i'm used to. I suppose every other mixer will then scare the hell out of me when turning away low's and or highs.

I really like the quality of the built in soundcard. That was my major concern when buying it, but this is definitely a big plus. I had an audio 8dj before, but i like the sound of this one better, plus the latency is equal to an audio 8dj.

If eq's are really your thing I would recommend to tesgt it out in the store before as it really is too much a personal preference.
