Default APC 40 vs VCM 600 Controller choice help!

Thinking of an upgrade but considering which would offer more value in terms of ease-of-use and quality. Since both have been out for a while already I think now would be a good time to compare/contrast the two. VCM600 looks pretty huge but I like that it's bus powered.

Tell me which one you prefer and give reasons why you chose that controller and help me make a better choice! Thanks.

VCM looks nice but its heavy. And i havent really seen many use it cause theres really not many buttons for clips.

Both look pretty awesome (never used a VCM 600).

From a purely layout POV, and assuming this is for ableton, it depends what you want to do. If it's for production, go for the VCM with its more comprehensive channel control layout, but if it's for live performance go for the APC because it has a better clip launch panel.

Thanks guys. Would you say the APC can be used for production too? Or would it help more if I added a BCR 2000 for production? I plan to use the APC for both live performance and possibly production with the faders and knobs etc but I don't know if it will be a hassle switching between "production mode" and "live mode" or am I just overthinking it?

I'm sure it'd do just fine for both, but it looks like you'd have more control with the VCM. As I said, not great for live shows though.

Ok awesome. Got an APC 40 off ebay! Was thinking the same thing now I don't have to worry about it.

Yeah! I'm glad that I got it cuz I was thinking the same thing as the OP and I ended up going APC 40 because I knew there were more people using it so I get more tech support lol. It's also quite flexible cuz I can also use TPro with it.

If you're using the APC40 with Live, you'd be MAD not to check out S4racen's mappings over at ALDJ (and here...)

    The videos are awesome.
