Default Akai MPK mini not seen by editor software

I just bought an Akai mpk midi keyboard and I'm pretty new to this but I cannot get it working and was wondering if anyone could help.

As per instructions I installed the editor software (MPK MINI editor) . Then, before running the software I plugged the keyboard in and windows XP did the whole 'new hardware found', 'your device is ready to be used' thing. I then ran the software and the midiinfo menu came up. I am supposed to have 'USB Audio Device' as one of the options but all I have is 'microsoft'synthesiser' and 'Microsoft GS wavetable synth'.

When I plug my UA-25 Interface (which I use for analog inputs haven't used it with midi) into one of the ports and then start the software, 'UA-25' is also listed as an option in the midiinfo menu. So the software is capable of seeing USB controllers. In device manager under sound, video and game controllers I can see USB Audio Device. Under general it says Manufacturer General USB Audio and the location is defined as Location 0 (MPK mini). I have uninstalled and reinstalled this driver but to no avail.

I am so excited to get to use the keyboard and so frustrated that I can't. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, I'm not sure I can help you with your problem, but if you're looking for some ideas for mapping let me know. I have one posted on here I can add into this comment, and another that I dont have a jpeg for. It is similar, but tweaked in some ways as I've come to realize how I like to use the device. It makes better use out of the 4 fx banks. I think it's a better mapping, but it is more complicated and, again, no picture of it. Let me know if you want to see it.

Thats the link to the original mapping. PM me if you'd like the other.

    Hey Milo,
So you ended up switching to windows 7 to work around the problem?!? That's pretty drastic. Did you ever find out why this was happening or get any further with the problem? I notice you didn't get any replies on your post for the same problem.

XP obviously works for some people so there must be some kind of work around to this. I don't really want to but I'm considering reinstalling XP to see if it fixes the problem although I am probably going to go deeper into windows MIDI stuff first.

If you found out anything else about this before you switched to windows 7 I'd love to hear about it.

Just so you know, I got it figured out. I installed a logitech webcam a few years ago and it turns out that the webcam drivers interfere with the midi drivers. I uninstalled the logitech drivers and it all works like a dream now. Weird eh? Here's the link to the solution:

yeah, you'll notice that I tried disabling my webcam in device manager in the screenshot on my original thread... didn't solve the problem for me unfortunately.
