    Default S4 usb connector problem

im sorry if there is a thread that explains this but i simply cant find it right now.

well long story short, the middle orange piece of the usb connector that covers the 4 little prongs in my s4 is missing and therefore i cannot connect my s4 to my computer.

i think i have read something about soldering it but i really have no idea on how to fix it. thanks in advance.

Sounds like a warranty issue to me. I'm sure you could solder it if your good enough, but it looks like it would involve taking the S4 apart which is a feat in itself.

However, from what I know is that if you open it, you void your warranty.... So I'd suggest to contact NI first before you do anything like that. You never know, it might be able to get fixed!

I just wonder... how the hell did that pop off?!

The USB is on the first print you reach when you open your S4. It is possible but i think you should contact NI. Maybe the warranty covers it?

That pin is accessible, but I would just listen to everyone and get it serviced. As long as your in the US and under warranty it wont cost you a dime. It did take me 2 1/2 - 3 weeks to get it back, but was worth it.

well i bought it used so i am pretty sure i have no warranty covering it.
i wanted to avoid sending it in because i have booked gigs but i guess that might be the only thing to do. i was looking at replacement usb type b plugs and does anyone know if there has to be a special type to be able to also power the s4?

[story of how it happened] well i pulled out the cable one day (very carfully because i have heard of this happening) , and it popped off. i just put the little piece that broke back in and put the usb in and cut a whole in my box i carry it in. then the other day someone decided to take the cord out when i was packing up.

If your savvy enough, it shouldn't be too hard to get to and change.

I would try to rip one of these apart to get the female socket http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16812200830

You might get lucky and you may be able to open the housing on both and figure out to switch out the center piece.

But you might just have an easier time wiring out the connections from the board to the new socket, because the pins might not line up. Or just wire in a old cable you got laying around and have a permanent cord attached.

i think i can get a direct replacement if i have to, i have not tried to take it apart yet as im waiting to see if by some slim chance the warranty comes through

but the usb type b connector seen in this picture(not mine)

looks like it could be swapped out with a connector i found off ebay. but im not sure if it is an right angle or just straight pin connector

What'd NI say about replacing it?

The S4 doesn't seem very easy to take apart and then having to solder that on.. sounds like a pain unless you're an expert.

so far they havent gotten back to me, its only been two days, so ill wait until they get back to me to start the project,

i bought four connectors for 5 dollars so i am going to see if i can simply break a piece off for a short fix. but if it comes down to having to do it myself ill see how the connectors are once it is open, whether like mentioned above about soldering a cable in place or replacing the port in general.
