Hey all quick question. I don't have the traktor software yet and was looking to buy an s4. If I get one that's used and doesn't include the registration key, can I download the trial version and buy the s4 scratch pro 2 upgrade kit to use that serial number? Or does it only work if you already have traktor pro 2? Thanks guys.

If you get a second hand s4 you need the old owner to un registers traktor so you can register it, otherwise you'l have to buy the whole lot, it would work out cheeper to buy a new s4 & scratch upgrade kit.
You need a registered version of traktor pro 2 for the upgrade to work as far as I know

If you're buying the S4 without the software you will have to buy software to use it. The Scratch upgrade will not work because you don't have the S4 software installed to qualify you for the upgrade.
