    Default S4 setup question

Ok so im getting ready to order my S4 and a set of technics with the scratch upgrade, but i was also thinking of grabbing a controller to go with it (huge controllerist fan). Would getting a X1 be useless since the S4 is pretty great for controlling Traktor? Thanks much

Grab a midi fighter and use the instant gratification mapping and your world will be complete!

I just sold my Audio2DJ and X1 and bought an S4. If I had a magic wand, I would have my X1 back and then buy another one and scrap the S4. But to answer your question, unless you are going to mix with 4 decks (the 1200's and the jog wheels) I wouldn't bother with the X1's. I prefer mixing with the 1200's vs the jog wheels and don't utilize the 3rd and 4th deck for mixing tracks, just sample decks. It's pretty cool for that feature but I wouldn't miss it if I didn't have it.

I don't own a midi fighter but it seems like a better companion to the S4.

depends on how much of your own mapping you want to do, and how 'playable' you want your controller to be.

The instant grat. mapping was designed for use with the S4, iirc, so that would be peachy keen. also lovely arcade buttons.

The traktor has more buttons/knobs/etc, but you'll have to re-map a lot, as a lot of its functionality overlaps with the s4. Also, you may or may not like the given button layout or button size/playability.

honestly, I'd say just wait and play with the setup you're planning on getting. Hell, even going the extra mile for the techs and scratch upgrade seem a little overkill unless you plan on scratching a bunch (er. edit. nvm, you're switching from a mixtrack, right? So yeah. depending on what your style of mixing is, adding a controller might not be necessary given your already large choice of control options) If you find yourself needing extra buttons for stuff, then consider a controller.

I loved my X1 along side my S4. I used it to control individual sample volume and filter and FX bank 3 and 4.

I have a MF classic that i use for cues and such, so ill just keep that to use with my new set-up. Yeah im moving from a mixtrack, but i really want to use timecode (been messing with my friend's lately and its orgasmic lol) because i do like to scratch a good bit. Ill just get the S4/Technics and use my MF with it. Thanks alot for your help ^_^

I have the X1, MF, and S4 and to be honest the X1 is pretty redundant when you're just mixing with 2 decks. However I loved my MF as a companion to the S4. I sold it, and within a week I had to re-order an MF (Upgraded it to a pro) cause I missed it. And I don't even mix much, I mainly spend my time producing.

    I'd go with MF + S4.

MF is great, and you're supporting your community as well as a "Mom & Pop" business!
