Acoustic treatment advice needed.

I have recently just leased out a place for a production studio, i will be in the building with a friend who produces also but this is my first time treating a room.

Now my friend has fully treated his room and has Nelski (Rising Music) coming up this weekend to make sure everything is the way it should be but my room isn't ready.

I'm planning on buying acoustic foam to place on the walls/roof and bass traps in the corners etc and also planning on buying some sort or rock wool to cover other parts.

So my question is, do you guys know of any places that have good prices for acoustic foam and what i would be looking to purchase? Remembering i'm in the UK and shipping from US can be expensive.

Also do you guys have any tips?

If you're buying foam, you can easily attach it to the walls with T-pins, which leave only tiny holes and not a crap load of glue. Great for renters or leases.

I'd say don't bother with foam bass traps like LERNDs, they only really work down to about 400Hz or so, so hardly bass traps. Broadband absorbers are much better here, and you can take them with you when you leave too.

If you can swing it, the stuff from GIK Acoustics is the best bang for the buck IMO. Far better than foam, looks nicer, and works WAY better. Some 244's for the corners and 242's for the side walls and you're set. Their room kits are the best deal, and they're in the UK too.

If you want to go the DIY route, Sound On Sound magazine has an acoustics forum with lots of great tips and DIY solutions.

Forget acoustic foam for now, for the most part it will be pretty ineffective for the low stuff that will be the real trouble. What you want are some real broad band absorbers/panels and real bass traps.

I am going to be building a bunch of 4'x2' x 4" thick panels- it looks pretty easy and they will look nice.

If you don't want to build panels GIK is supposedly the best, ATS is good too but i think they are US based but have some great deals if you use their kits.
