midi fighters digital inputs and Ableton

Just trying to map my midi fighter. I have wired up the digital inputs. however, when i try to map then in ableton they dont map. It sends a midi message because if I trigger the button when a vst is there it triggers a note on the synth. But when i go in to map mode and select something an try to map it nothing happens.

does anyone know what I am doing wrong.

I'm having the same issue with Ableton Live 8 and MFP. I can send midi notes to play instruments fine, but I want to use the MFP as a controller for effects etc. When I enter Midi Map Mode in Ableton, it won't recognise any of the buttons/knobs/sliders. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

prefs > midi > make sure "remote" is activated on the MF in port.
