Did you check on the back of the unit that it wasn't set as thru?

Click on the big "D" on deck D. Set it to "Track Deck."

Well you still want it to be positioned to "Track Deck" when using timecode.

If you want to use your turntable as a live input, then you will want to set the back of the S4 to "thru" and the deck itself to "Live Input."

he will lose all mixer and fx controls over channel D if he does so.

Try plugging and unplugging a mic a few times to see if you can get it to react again. Sounds like a hardware problem to me.
