Default How To Get Your Music Blogged - advice for new producers

Hello All - I've been running a music blog for a few years and I get loads of emails from people who have no idea how to approach bloggers and record labels effectively.

So in an effort to help people get their music heard I've been putting together this little guide on How To Get Blogged. It might be of use to people that are starting out. I get a lot of good feedback on this so I think it does help...

Part 2 - "Mailshot Basics" Written in frustration of the complete incompetence of Digital / Online PR Companies

Part 3 "Introducing Yourself" written in frustration of people's apparent lack of manners

Part 4 "Music Presentation" Basic stuff Written in frustration of the fact that people STILL send MP3 links / attachments

Part 5 "Pulling Your Weight" is currently under construction. There are loads of ways not only to get more support, but to get RE-blogged. But this only happens if artists are willing to build on the efforts of a record label or blog. This will revolve around social media etiquette and a few hand tools that most people are unaware of that actually do boost your profile.
Once the olympics are out of the way I'll have some time to work on this properly. Swearing is a very time consuming process

1- Pay a PR company huge amounts of money... then you will get noticed.
2- Write music that is commercial and watered down.
3- Be a sad twat and spend more time arse licking and social media whoring than in the studio.
4- Write Dubstep and jump on the bandwagon.

    5. Write good songs, send them out to key people, labels and blogs. Usually the 'good' part is missing.

Well done, Jack! Much information in there!!
The lines I liked best were in your "about" though: "I say we, it’s just me. We just makes it sound important."

Well, this is the sad reality, isn't it?

I think you know what's the godwin point. I developed a theory that on every music related thread, after a short period of time, someone will end up bitching about dubstep or skrillex. I'll call the the Godlex point.

You're SO pathetic, aargh, deep inside, I can't even explain how much I feel sorry for you.

Seriously, is that so hard to listen to stuff you like and that's it ?
Life is too short to waste time bitching. I lost 5 minutes because of this post, I hope I'll save you more than that.

    You're welcome.

PS : I'm dead serious about that Godlex point. Find a dubstep track on youtube that has more than 1000 view. Click on show all comments. Ctrl F, type Skrillex. Bingo.
