    Default Synthesizer Routing

    Im setting up my synthesizers and right now i have the Juno 106 communicating with ableton fine both ways and I would think by just running another wire from the midi thru to the kurzweils in i would have everything up and running smoothly but the kurzweil synth isnt reading any midi from the junos midi thru. Cant anyone help me out this is how i have it set up:

    Interface out -> Juno in
    Juno thru -> Kurzweil in
    Juno out -> interface in.

    In theory the kurzweil *should* be receiving the same MIDI OUTPUT data from ableton that the Juno is, however it will never send anything IN to ableton. If you are going to daisy chain your synths like that using only one MIDI OUT from the PC you'll need to make sure they are set to receive on different MIDI channels. Are you getting literally nothing on the kurzweil? Is there a midi transmission light on it that stays dark no matter what? If you have no way to monitor the midi stream on the kurzweil you can get a freeware program called midi ox that you install on the PC. Once you have it up and running you'd want to unplug the midi cable from the kurzweil (the one whose other end is attached to the juno's thru) and plug it back into the computer's midi input. Now when you press play or whatever to send some notes or midi out from ableton, you shuold see a stream of midi data flipping past the screen in midi ox. This will confirm the thru is working correctly or not. If it is, there are probably some settings on the kurzweil that need tweaking. If it's blank, then chances are it's the juno that needs tweaking. Or has a bad midi thru jack or something. Or even that you have a bad midi cable.
