OTTO - Every controllerists (wet)dream?
Hey everybody!
I found this article and I thought I'd share it with you:
http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/30/o...t-on-tin-cans/
It's a controller called "OTTO". It has LED's on the wheel that shows the dynamics of the song that is loaded onto it. It looks like it's touch sensitive and has a couple of extra switches on the side that can be used to control effects. According to its designer, it has its own software, but it's not clear if it would work with other programs. Although using one of those USB HID-to-MIDI software used by many of us should be able to make this beast Traktor or Live compatible, right?
Imagine having 2 of these in front of you with a usb mixing desk in the middle. Pretty sweet, right?
EDIT: The whole project is based on the Arduino, a device used by hobby electronics enthusiasts for just about anything. It obviously has a great potential as the heart of a controller!

Judging by the demos and me owning a KP3, the KP3 owns this. I like the clockwise motions though.

it looks like a lot of fun. I wonder if it's more intuitive than existing tools i.e. Beatmasher/Beatrepeat effect + standard midi controller ??
Either way it would be a pretty neat addition to any setup.

It does look super intuitive. You see the music on the LED's, and you touch it where you'd like to do something to it. And I love that it's round, which visualizes loops perfectly. By the way, have you guys read the article on DJTT? He specifically Wants to make it as cheap as possible. How amazing is that???
