    Default Monitors & Subwoofer advice?

    Hey fellas!

Im looking to buy a pair of monitors and a subwoofer, i need it for my new years eve party in my apartment, so i need it to have good range in hi,mid & low..

After the party i will use it just to listen to music, so i need some advice (i love deep bass!)

My pricerange is 780$ - 900$ (mostly in the lower range in that category)

I hope you guys will help me!

    Thanks in advance

If your using it for a party I wouldn't be looking at monitors, I would be looking for a small PA system.

How big is the apartment and how many people will you have? Where are you located?

I've had successes with buying heaps of old 70's Wharfedale and philips loudspekers. They are bass heavy by nature, but really good quality. Look for sealed enclosures with paper cone woofers. If you have enough the bass stays clean (opposed to bassreflex enclosures). If you have several of them, see which ones you like best and sell the rest. You won't cry if one breaks and you will spend very little money. If you are looking for a sub, look for something with a lot of cone area. Miniaturized subs tend to mud up. I hate mud up bass at a party, as you can't have a normal conversation.

    Option 1:
Buy a beefy set of PC 2.1 speakers at your local big box retailer. In fact, you might want to get two sets....and put a top near the ceiling in all four corners of the room. Put the subs in opposite corners on the floor.

    Option 2:
Build a set of these: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=300-640 They will rival anything you can buy pre-assembled at up to 2x the price. Mount them right next to the ceiling, pointed down at a 10-15deg angle.
    Buy this: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=300-629
Use any reasonable home receiver that has a sub output, and ~100w/channel for the tops.

    Option 3:
Buy a pro-audio PA, and don't turn it up past about "4" at the house party.
