Default What's the best way to set up a MIDI Controller in Ableton?

    Hello,

How can i setup my MIDI controller to work like this in Ableton:

I know this might sound like a stupid question, but I'm a newbie

    that's what i'm currently doing:
    - double click "Drum Rack"
    - drag and drop every sound on a note
    my midi controller works well.

i'm just wondering if this is the right way to go... or if there's another way to set up a MIDI controller in Ableton Live.

    Another question:
How can I start playing a sound as soon as i press a button, but stop playing it as soon as i release it?
at the moment all my sounds play from start to finish. i mean, even if i release a button the sound will play until the end.

    thank you

Part one: if your midi controller is outputting different notes than the ones in the sound pack, you can put a 'midi effect' called 'pitch' in front of the drum rack and pitch up or down till you notes are in the range for the sound packs.

Part two: in the Simpler or Sampler, change the 'release' value to something lower. If you set it to 0 then the sound will stop instantly when you release. Play around to find the right balance.

Your welcome! Thank you Mad Zach for giving me that info and the idea to alter the sounds dramatically without retriggering!

One I'd like to learn is how to select different samples randomly, each time I trigger. Then use more subtly different samples to emulate analogue gear / drums ect.. Anyone know how to do that?
