    Default Relative Modifier Mapping Technique

This mapping technique will allow some creative fader/knob usage on any MIDI controller. To start experimenting go ahead and add one modifier which is free in your mapping... I'll be using a modifier #1 in this example

Add In > Modifier 1 > apply the settings same as in the image below

Time to test. Move the fader and notice that modifier value will jump from 0 to 7 but, the state will change at the knob center! You can see and confirm this? - congrats, your fader is now officially split in to two different ranges.

Let's try do some mappings... We can start by assigning an effect button but in our case we want this button to get activated when the fader passes the center position and remain activated if you continue moving it to the very end. Once you bring it back to center and slide back to zero value the effect turns off and remains this state.

    Add In > FX Unit > Button 1 / M1=0 / type=button / interaction=direct / value=0 / assign FX Unit target
    Add In > FX Unit > Button 1 / M1=7 / type=button / interaction=direct / value=1 / assign FX Unit target

This is vary basic setup which helps show what this technique can let you do. I hope you guys like and find some great use cases where this modifier technique shows it's full potential!

This technique allows for the superknob functionality. If you take a close look you can notice I'm activating an echo freeze effect after the middle position is reached.

I assumed it was part of the tips thread already for a long time.

There’s also an almost hermetic community that exists in many areas of dance music, where serious hobbyists feed off each other’s expertise but barely connect to the industry – despite many of those involved actually working in it.

Damn, Yul is right. I haven't used that method in quite awhile and forgot about it. Getting old sucks.

Although Stewe's is different slightly from how I mapped it. Mine was set to kick in another Fx at the end of the fader throw. The only problem I had with it was moving the fader too fast caused unreliable results. Stewe's settings should be more reliable as it activates in the middle of the fader throw instead of at the end.

@Yul - I remember posting this before as a reply to dude who was needed the X-fader solution for the Kontrol Z2 mapping. He wanted to be able of cutting the A deck at both sides of a crossfader where this technique fitted perfectly... However, I couldn't remember posting the same thing to tips 'n' tricks thread (could of be wrong though )

Anyways I think the most of people never seen this kind of mapping before and this thread should be much easier to track and find.

@VanGogo - try out this version which doesn't involve any modifiers and produces the event at the fader end throw.

Map both to the same fader/knob:
FX On / button / hold
    FX On / button / direct=0 / invert

Though, I don't know if this principal can be applied to the S4 native map but you should be able producing it in MIDI mode. Let me know.
