Default Absolute Beginner, need guidance on equipment

    Hey Guys,

This is my first post, I was introduced to the whole DJ scene a few months back (clubs etc), and I’m really inspired by all this. Please note that I’m an absolute beginner. Historically, I’ve been a classic rock fan, but after being introduced to House, I just keep getting sucked into it more and more. Progressive to be more specific.

So, I want to do the music I like and how I like it. I’m doing this not to end up in a club or to make money, if that happens, it happens, but my primary goal is to do something I will enjoy as a hobby. At the same time, I need something that I can grow into.

I have a laptop and will be using digital files.

I’ve done some surveys and the following hardware is available where I am with the prices in USD converted:

I really do not know what the capabilities of each controller are, as I said I’m a total newbie. Nor I know what the feel would be like, I mean frankly, I’m a total..as you might say virgin, there’s no set preference as their is no experience, so I seek your opinion.

What would you prefer for me to buy and why and if not, why not.

Would be really grateful of the feedback,

You may add in a few recommendations for headsets, tho, dont want to splash a lot of money into all of it just yet. I'll make a thread on headsets seperately at a later stage ones the basic equipment is locked in

    Regards

Headphones are part of the basic equipment and kind of required to actually be able to DJ. IMHO, the best "budget" headphones are either Sony MDR-V6 or MDR-7506. They're the same headphones with different stickers on them, and you can often find one for cheaper than the other depending on where you are and where you buy.

As for the controller....if I were starting today, I'd want someone to point me at the Kontrol S2. I think it's the best of the bunch that you listed, but it all comes down to personal preference. At this point, I'd never buy one...but, I would have loved it starting out, and I've had quite a bit of time to develop preferences since then. I might choose the DDJ-SR above it, but not the SB. And I've never been a huge fan of the other brands you have listed.

    Congrats, and enjoy.

The Denon MC3000 or NI S2 would be my first choices. Both are solid, well built, two deck controllers that you can use to develop your workflow and technique.
    Denon X1600, NI X1 Mk1 & Mk2, MF Twister
    Kontrol S2, Maschine Mk1, APC 40
    Retired: VCI-100 Arcade (Signed #198/300))
    BFM 10x DR200 & 10x Titan 39
