    Default Need Help Picking Solid Mixer

    Hello!

    I need help picking a solid 4 track mixer. I am going from a tractor s4, and I am looking to buy an actual DJ mixer.

    I found this one... and it seems to be getting decent reviews, especially for the price.. my concern would be- how do I map cue points? would I need to buy Kontrol X1's? (two of them I assume since I want control over my 4 channels?)

    any advice would be appreciated, thanks!!!

    The best value may come by increasing your budget. The Denon X1600 has a built in four channel sound card. Plug in a USB from the computer and you're ready to go.

    You will need an external sound card with each of these mixers. Four channel sound interfaces are typically as much as your full budget.

    Denon X1100 $380

    Any of the above except the 606 A little biased on the x1600 myself but if you can afford one, go for it.

    As a Pure mixer, I would at a minimum go with the x1100.

    However perhaps look at some other second hand gear - if you can afford it one of the other members has a Xone 42 for $550 currently - that mixer will last an age and then some.

    You don't mention soundcard - what are you planning on using ?

    Also are you planning on playing out and just bringing your X1's / Soundcard, or the entire rig including mixer - that is the question ?

    If Midi / Soundcard is also needed, you could also look at the American Audio mxr14 which has a built in soundcard and midi control as well in a neat package without any other bells and whistles.

    You're gonna need an Audio interface with any of the mixers you've listed.

    BUT - they're all TERRIBLE mixers anyway.

    So, you need to go for:

    1) 4-Channel DJ mixer, and;
    2) 4-channel audio interface, and;
    3) Controller for cuepoints, etc...

    You're not gonna do it for <$400

    Your absolute BEST bet for the money you've got, is a Behringer DDM4K ($349 new). It's FULLY midi mappable. So you won't need a separate AI. There are plenty of buttons on the 4K that could potentially be mapped for cuepoints.

    Go used, and you could probably get a used X1 too.

    Thanks for the input. I forgot to mention I need a sound card, so I guess I should get a mixer that has a built in sound card? But then I would need to bring a sound card if I'm playing out at a venue no? So if that were the case, shouldn't I get a mixer with a soundcard separate? That way I can bring the sound card if necessary?

    I use my audio 6 still with my x1600, its a good idea to have a soundcard handy if you cant take your mixer with you.
