    Default More talks about VSTs/plugins

Welp, just got an email earlier today from Waves saying I need to purchase an update plan for my plugins so I can keep them up to date... $230.... You kidding me? I paid hundreds of dollars for a bundle and few individual plugins and that's simply not enough for them? I don't get it... I think I'm going to just cut ties with them and stop giving them my business.

I was also looking into Slate Digital's products.. They have some really good bundles going on now, and they even allow you to get their full bundle and pay monthly which is really cool.

What I'm really after now is a nice tape plugin. There are just so many options for that as well... UAD, Waves(piss off), Slate, etc

Looking for recommendations on some. Hoping some of you guys like Tarekeith might have some good input and suggestions.

    Cheers!

No kidding. Bought the silver bundle from them and many more individuals.... How do they come up with this shit?

"Hey uhhh... I know you decided to drop $500 on our products rather than pirate them so yeah... If you want to keep them updated just pay us another $300"

Waves WUP is ridiculous. I don't pay the WUP. The plugs I have from them function just fine without needing the update at the ridiculous amount they charge. (I tend to pick up plugs from them when they go on sale for $29, and the WUP is then like $70 two years later...no thanks)

I have the Slate subscription. It's really flippin nice. They've got some really nice EQs and Comps, their FG-X is fantastic for end of master chain limiting and I prefer their tape emulation over the Waves Kramer Tape I have. That doesn't include the optional additional $5 / month for the RX480 reverb, which is fantastic as well. Plus any updates/new plugs they come up with come along for free with the subscription. You do however need iLok (you get one free with the subscription if you get it for 2 months) and it requires an install called Gobbler which a lot of people don't like - it has to login via Internet occasionally.

Waves IS ridiculous IMO, so many other options out there.

For tape plug ins, check out u-he's Satin.

Yeah, the Slate subscription is starting to sound like a good idea. I doubt I'd go big and get the bundle with the reverb though, I already have a few reverbs I like using.

Looks promising and I know u-He is quality so this is something I may invest in here. Thanks

I hear ya on the verb, although I think it only adds $5/month. If you want that Lexicon sound, it's a great emulation. It's not the easiest to figure out at first though - the UI is nothing like most of the other verbs I use.

Speaking of Verbs, Valhalla just came out with a new one - Valhalla Plate. It's fantastic sounding, and as usual, $50 if you're looking for a good plate verb.

I saw that!! Did you already buy it???

I still use Room religiously... I've also been using Audio Damage's "Eos" and it's been giving me good results on my basses. Really simple interface. I have a few Waves reverbs(Trueverb) but I was never really fond of them.

indeed I did. It's a great sounding verb. My primaries at this point are Valhalla Vintage, Acon Digital Verberate for more natural, the LX480 that comes w/ Slate and now this with the occasional Live Convolution thing thrown in if I want something kooky.

Heard good things about Eos, although I'm really trying to stop buying stuff. Hoping that buying the house and all the crap that needs to be done with it will help in that regard. Otherwise I would have gotten myself a Strymon Big Sky for my birthday.

The Slate yearly subscription (not monthly) is on sale for Black Friday. Think you get like $40 off per month or so. Just sayin...
