Technics 1200-MK3 Price History Help

Due to an insurance situation, I have to come up with an approximate price I paid for a pair of 1200-MK3s (not the 3ds, the "3-k" Japan release version.)

In 1999.

Yes, I'm old. With that out of the way, does anyone have a rough idea what brand new out of the box 1200s were going for at that time, let alone 'rare' Japan only releases?

I remember where I bought them, etc, but they of course don't keep records that long, and I honestly can't remember what I (probably over)paid for them at the time...

It would be interesting to get an idea of prices over the years.

I brought my 1200 Mk 2's in approx 1986 (so i'm probably oder!), & at that time the cheapest i could get them was £250 each (UK price).

I think the list price was a little bit higher. I remember getting the train down to London, & haggling between a few shops on Tottenham Court Road.

I bought MkIIs in LA at Guitar Center probably 1998 or 1997; at the time I paid $400 (black European edition, though I don't think there was a price difference) each and as I recall that was about $50 below typical street price at the time of $450/each. But it's all kind of speculative; you might be able to check with a Guitar Center or similar if the place you bought them doesn't keep records.
