Cut button for scratching in traktor.

I want to do some scratching, but I don't have a crossfader. To get around this I want to create a cut button with my LPD8. When you push the button you'd hear the track and when you release it you'd get silence.


Here's my current solution:

add -> volume fader
type of controller -> fader/knob
interaction mode -> direct

However, I have two issues with this. The first is that the pads are velocity sensitive. So it doesn't always push the volume to full. This is particularly true if you are using multiple fingers on the same hand to try and push the button really fast. I need it to go to 50% every time I touch the pad. The second issue is that it uses the volume fader instead of the crossfader which would give you more flexibility. IE ability to cut two decks at the same time.

Unfortunately I can't seem to figure out any way to get the desired functionality by controlling the crossfader. Setting it to direct will just move the crossfader from one side to the other, and the other options won't reset the fader back to where it was when you let go of the button.

I was hoping that you could modify how the pads react so that it would set the crossfader to 50% when you push it instead of allt he way to the other side. Unfortunately there's nothing like that for the LPD8 software.

Seems to me that it simply isn't possible with the traktor software. They'd have to add some sort of hold option for that particular control. This would set it to the specified value when the button is pressed and return things to where they were when you release it.

Setting the button to control all 3 EQ kills seems to work, but you have to hit the pad just right for it to triger. Prevents you from cutting as fast as the volume fader method allows.

I've got a solution for you. Instead of manipulating the fader, try using the assign left/right x-fader option. If you assign them AC/BD and then have a button that assigns deck A to the opposite side on "hold", then you would have the cut function essentially.

anything is possible if you put your mind to it. This is actually quite easy to achive your just have to think a little out the box. So this is how you do it

select crossfader as your in then set type to encoder then encoder mode to 3fh/41h and interaction mode to relative. This is for the left side invert this for the right side

now select cross fader again assigning it to the sam button chose button as type of control interaction mode direct and set to value 0.5.


However i would recomend having the cross fader in the middle and when you hit the button to cut the sound to do this set it to value 1 with no invert to flick to right side and 0 with invert for left side

tombruton69's solution works perfectly. I setup a button for each side of the crossfader. You can also set it up so that when both buttons are pressed it will reset the crossfader by using a modifier. However I eventually decided to just map a reset crossfader key on the keyboard.
