10min Electro-house mix

10min Electro-house mix

Hope you guys enjoy as much as we did recording it.

Why would you post a 10min mix to begin with?

It was to send to as a promo for electro-house, with shorter transitions/song lengths. Its 10min 5 songs. Not all mixes have to be 1-2 hours long

Of course they do! How else are you going to establish a groove, an atmosphere and be able to make something memorable for people so they want to come back to it again and again?

DJing is all about creating a listening experience that they’ll remember and want to listen to again and again. Hardly something you can establish in a 10minute span.

Its more of a here’s what we can do sort of mix. Something we sent in to try and get a local gig. We as well do have hour long mixes accompanied with it. Just thought some people might wanna here it as well :stuck_out_tongue:

electro house? Sound more like a genre called ‘commercial’ or ‘boring’

Yes dude only ehouse song you had in there was by dada life. If my ears are correct I heard crossfader mixing? Keep practicing.

Just tell it how it is brother man!

So all you can do is 10min mixes?

first off, didnt your parents ever say to you when you were a child — “if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say it at all” – cause it seems like a few people might have missed that lil nugget of knowledge growing up.

second, the OP posted a mix to get some feedback/exposure – most likely posting here because he (or she) values the opinions of the people in this forum and was excited to share a mix they created to like minded people…

now, if we all start acting like a bunch of arrogant pricks, how does that foster a creative environment in which we can all further our knowledge of our craft? if thats what you guys wanna do, dont start bitching when you see people who dont know shit about mixing.

third, anyone can create a hour long mix thats decently good to listen to, yet trying to do the same in a short 10 min time span and still creating a mix that will grab peoples attention (without having to devote an hour or more) to listening to it to get the “full journey” you so speak of. IMHO, its much harder to create a good 10 min mix compared to a good hour+ mix.

AND electro house is a real broad genre. who really gives a shit. all of those songs were either electro house (ish) remixes and/or house mixes. do you really know what genre EVERY song fits into? sub categories and all?

its called constructive criticism, if no one tells you your stuff sucks, you aint gonna improve. we all go through it, its the good ones that rise above the ignorant comments and excel in w/e they try so if anything the comments i seen here are helpful.

Now OP can come back next time with a an awesome mix and shove it in our face and a 10 min mix is not harder than an hour mix.

When I see a mix that is creative and something they obviously spent time working on I would be more than happy to work with them and help them foster and develop that talent.

This is not one of those situations. He even said it himself. It’s just 5 songs of uncreative and bland “electro house” he mixed as a demo cd to send out to local guys to try and get gigs, not something that’s really creative and going to stand out.

+1 on everything above too

First off, I agree with what everyone is saying. Obviously its a bland mix, and deeming it as electro house as a genre is skeptical. I knew that the moment I chose the songs. The reason I have those songs is because the area where I’m from you can’t just play underground songs, and god for bid if you play a song that doesn’t have vocals that no one can dance to, even though it has a dance beat. I tried to pick pretty well known songs, that way it grabs peoples attention. Its impossible to get a gig around here playing straight progressive/trance which is what I love to play. And normally I don’t do shorter mixes/transitions between songs. If any of you took the time to look at the Consciousness episodes also posted on our page you would see how we normally mix. We’re just trying to branch out to hopefully, in turn, nail some other gigs at other places and get a little more rep.

Also any constructive criticism is always welcome. The reason I post on this site is because I trust a lot of the people and their knowledge after seeing what a lot of you are capable of.

Cheers

This guy got it right

A couple of things.

First, you didn’t post up any “Consciousness episodes”, we are just talking about this mix.

Second, you’re nothing but a sell out it seems. If you love to play “X & Y” then why not post a mix of that instead of something you really don’t care for?

You’re not really helping your cause with that post mate. You’re backing pedaling faster than a politician who just got caught up in a lie.

I have posted both of the consciousness episodes, I just haven’t had anyone on here post about them. And the reason I’m playing that type of music even though I love X and Y is because, I love that type of music too

+1 for this!
I really can find myself in the topic starter! In my area, it’s like electro house is only for the devil!
But I don’t care! My heart is electro house so I play it!

I’ve made some mixtapes and putted them on soundcloud and guess what?
Most of my fans/gigs/bookings are abroad and I don’t care to see the world and get payed for it

So, follow the genre what you want to play and you will enjoy it a lot more and maybe someone spots you and you’re off!

Btw, facebook is your friend

Exactly, people can always see through those who are trying to “fake” it, and can see those who are honestly into it and are actually bringing something to the table.

You check out Laidback Luke or Eddie Halliwell mix, they drop progressive house, trance, house and even throw in some commercial stuff and can rock any crowd.
