13" or 15" MBP?

13" or 15" MBP?

currwently running an Asus i5 laptop, but it’s already getting a little unreliable (the trackpad buttons are getting less and less responsive) and I get a bit miffed that I have to turn off wifi and the battery monitoring to get a nice low latency, so I’ve been considering getting a refurbed MBP

If a 13" screen enough, or do you need a 15"

I only really use two decks at a time (occasionally three for samples/scratching but not for long periods of time)

Also, did any of the older Macs have more than 2 USB ports?

I’ve used both a 13" and a 15" MBP with traktor and to be honest there really isn’t too much of a difference especially if you’re using an external mixer and can hide the internal one. Also being able to adjust the font size in Traktor will help with any reading issues so I’d say it all comes down to weight. I personally just prefer the 15" MBP since I do more than DJ on it so that might be a better bet if you’re going to use it for more than DJing.

13" macbook air!

I have a 13inch macbook, and i’ve never had a problem with the screen size on it.

as JesC said, have a look at the 13inch macbook air, a damn impressive machine.

i got a 13" mbp, does it job, but im really thinking of getting a MBA 11" just for serato

I say 15, but 13 would probably be enough if you can hide the internal mixer.

Therein lies the rub - I currently have the internal mixer shown, though I’m sure I could cope …

if you’re producing and doing stuff with waveforms, i’d suggest the 15 inch. with the thirteen inch, there is so much zooming in and out. the 15 inch models usually have better specs capabilitites anyway.

17" and never look back. If your laptop becomes your life, might as well do something that can handle everything.

true.. but nothing that will make a noticeable when it comes to audio programs.

You could get the cheapest MB and you’d be fine

You can put a second harddrive in the 15" one.
It also has more usb-ports although everyone is waiting for a Lightpeak USB-hub which allows daisy-chaining.

I’m at the moment considering also which one to get. I want maximum portability because I will travel a lot soon. On the other side I also produce and edit video where screen-size is a big plus.

I just got a Thinkpad T420 with a 14" display. That is pretty much the perfect size for me.

There is a slot of a second HDD? or are you talking about the optical drive swap out?

I bought a 13" MBP a few weeks ago.
I don’t do video editing, maybe for little promo videos but the 13" is enough for me. If I wanted I big screen I’d get a desktop, thats just my opinion!

Yeah, these are called Optibay

I use one (UltraBay) in my Thinkpad as well. Got a SSD for “main”-music and an ordinary harddrive for production-stuff and “secondary”-music.

If you can stand the added weight and additional size I would roll with the 15.

Being able to zoom into waveforms on a larger monitor when gridding is really helpful.

Wait… You can’t optibay a 13"?

yeah but a 15"

if you guys really needs a bigger display, get a macbook air 13" or macbook pro 13" & a 27" cinema display…for cheaper than a 17" mbp

…or get macbook w/e 13" and a regular 27" display which will cost 600$ less and do the same job.

Sorry, couldn’t help it. PLZ NO BAN ME!

Don’t think that’s right… Unless MCE selling the optibay for 13" is all just a clever ruse.

maybe for the MBP 13".
