I’ve got 2 traktor F1 units, wich can be turned into “User Mode” by pressing shift+browse.
However only 1 controller can be switched to user mode a time.
Pressing shift+browse on the other F1 when the first 1 is already in User mode results in switching the first 1 back to normal mode and the second 1 to user mode.
It’s not the input/ output routing of the controllers, when I set these on the right in/out ports they switch back to all ports in/out when I switch a controller to user mode.
This problem doesn’t happen when I set the controllers options to MIDI mode instead of User mode, but I really prefer to use the User mode, because its way faster and easier to map (don’t really have the spare time to map every HSB button manually).
Does anyone know how to put 2 traktor F1 controllers in user mode simultaneously?
I will probably end up mapping everything manually with HSB values, but since Xtreme mapping for traktor doesn’t respond to my mails that will be a pain in the **s…
Sadly no.. the tab in the Traktor options wich appears when you connect a F1 controller is always the same tab. You don’t get 2 different tabs either when connecting 2, so apart from the mappings (when used in MIDI mode) both F1s are the same.
I don’t think NI would release this controller without looking in to possibility of using multiple F1’s in some way..
Perhaps you can investigate the Controller Editor and hopefully set them as Controller #1 and Controller #2.
I have “renamed” the controllers in controller editor to kontrol f1-1 and f1-2 just like I did when I had 3 X1’s running my traktor.
No NI did design them to even use 4 at the same time. As long as they are in normal mode (the hardwired and not remappable remix deck mode).
In the tab wich appears when connecting a F1 you can check a box for MIDI or USER mode as you may know.
When the checkbox is set to MIDI mode (like all NI controllers can) you can switch both controllers to that MIDI mode (switch + browse on the F1).
Then no problem occurs at all, as long as the in/out ports of the controllers are set to the right controller.
Now when it’s in USER mode (wich is an option only for the F1 I think) you can only turn 1 into USER mode at a time.
The USER mode is easier to map since you don’t have to use CC notes for every button etc.
As I already said I would really prefer to use this USER mode instead of MIDI mode (mabye i’m just too lazy to do CC mapping in traktor again).
My mappings include the following tabs:
Traktor Kontrol F1-1 Deafault (in/out set to F1-1)
Traktor Kontrol F1-2 Default (in/out set to F1-2)
Traktor Kontrol F1-1 USER (in/out set to F1-1)
Traktor Kontrol F1-2 USER (in/out set to F1-2)
But as soon as I turn 1 F1 into USER mode by shift + browse both USER mappings pop to in/out port all, instead of staying on the ports i’ve set them, wich then causes the first F1 to turn back in to default mode when you try to turn the second 1 into USER mode.
Again in MIDI mode theres no problem, both controllers mappings keep the right in and out ports.
But I really don’t wanna start making at least 4 mappers for each button, just to get the color right…
I bought NI controllers for the reason that it would work perfect with traktor.
I’ve been breaking my head over this for the last 2 months or so, and nobody at the NI forum was able to help me..
I’m really starting to think theres no other option but to map everything in MIDI mode.
But I just can’t imagine that NI doesn’t know about this or anything.
Tada Tadam, I feel your pain. I’ve been struggling with this as well. I only recently picked up the 2nd F1, so I haven’t had much time to play with the settings and such. I completed the renaming process in the controller manager, as well as updated both their firmware. I’ve tried figuring out a specific routine upon startup, making sure to get one controller connected at a time, but that doesn’t seem to change anything. I’ve also tried setting the device target below the in/out ports a couple different ways (both as focus and independently as A/B).
I understand the desire to utilize user mode over midi, I’m with you on that. In fact, I was under the impression that the default mode was also re-mappable. I haven’t been able to make that happen at all. I’ve mapped a command or two (with or without override enabled) only to find that the controller would then not respond to any input whatsoever.
These things definitely seem a bit glitchy as a pair. Hopefully we can get this straightened out soon!
So… I’ve got some more to add to this F1 drama. Tada Tadam, have you experienced any strange layout behavior as well? In addition to what you’ve described – while in user mode with either F1, if I push Shift+Browse to return to default mode, it also triggers a layout preset. When I repeat these two steps, every time I go back to default mode, it triggers the next default layout preset (essential, extended, browser, mixer). I didn’t have any of these problems before I added the second F1!
I tried deleting all Traktor related .plist files (Mac OS X 10.8.4) from my preferences folder but that didn’t change anything. I’ve got a few other things I wanna troubleshoot, I’ll post back if I come up with anything.
In the meantime, I just went ahead and ordered a DDJ-SP1
I don’t have any problems with changing layout presets.
Try deleting and re-adding both default maps of the F1 controllers. that fixed some problems for me in the past. (somehow deleting the .TSI files of the default mappings doesn’t change anything, it almost
I still haven’t found a solution for User mode on 2 F1’s, but somehow i’m glad that i’m not the only 1 experiencing this.. (now i’m atleast sure it’s the controllers instead of my brains wich are faulty )
Haha, I was thinking the same thing. Have you tried a full re-install of Traktor? Hopefully I’ll have some time tonight to see if that helps anything. I’ve tried deleting all of the .tsi multiple times, both default and user. In fact, I think I’ve tried everything other than the fresh install.
Got any luck yet frankie?
I still didn’t figure it out, I can switch 2 F1’s into MIDI mode without any problems, but the d*mn USER mode keeps bugging me..
Have tried a reinstall, and I started over from scratch about 5 times now, every time the MIDI mode seems to work on 2 F1’s but the USER mode keeps popping from the one to the other F1..
No, I still haven’t gotten anywhere either. I had great ideas in my head for the dual F1s, but it’s looking like that’s all out the window now. I would still go ahead and map out the MIDI mode but, like I mentioned, I’ve got the DDJ-SP1 now. I no longer sense a need to use the F1s outside of default mode. I’ll let you know if anything changes though! Be sure to keep this thread updated if you work something out.
Your using a Pioneer for traktor? Man o man, I had to map a DDJ SB for a friend once, what a hell, decided never to map pioneer again after that day haha.
Ill send you my user mode when I’m done, pretty sure you’ll like it (or can take some pieces from it).
I’ve nearly finished all my traktor mappings on all my devices (HURRAY!!)
Right now I’ve got about every function in Traktor mapped, so I guess I won’t need the second F1 to be in user mode..
I’ll probably start mapping in MIDI mode aswell, 1 F1 is just not enough for ableton and Traktor combined, but 1 thing at a time.
MIDI mode is gonna be a hell tho… considering I already have about 400 led out maps made in USER mode… you have to triple it if you want the same lights in MIDI mode…
I really like the SP1 a lot, mapping it out has been great! I love how they split everything up onto multiple midi channels internally. For instance, there are buttons designed to switch from deck A to C and B to D that automatically move all of the deck controls to another channel, eliminating the need for modifiers. They did the same with the performance pads, each selectable group puts out different note numbers. Very handy!
I’d love to take a run through your user map when it’s finished. And if you decide to tackle that colorized midi map, I’ll take a handout! The only thing that bums me out about the Pioneer is the lack of color coded hotcues. Just a sacrifice I have to make I guess. Other than that, it’s really awesome! The feel of the performance pads is pretty amazing. Very well built little controller!
This is what I got so far.
The pages sync, quant, capture are still open (didn’t have the time to put stuff in there yet)
Shift is a hold shift button and browse is a toggle shift button.
Reverse contains FX routing for 4 decks.
Type contains: gain rotaries, tempo fader, EQ kill switches (hold when browse is of and toggle when browse is on), Signal meters for every deck, toggling gain/auto gain, and by holding down shift you can also select the tempo range.
Size contains hotcue points for every deck.
Not selecting a page is just a layer to show which decks are playing (for now).
Man I gotta find some time to finish this mapping..
