2 TTs & Xone 92 & DD7 & TSP2

Hello guys

I am new here. Interesting to see such a big digital DJ community exists.

I just upgraded my mixer to a Xone 92. Was using a Denon X1700 before.

With the Denon X1700 I didn’t need a sound card because the mixer was scratch certified, so I’m going to buy Traktor Scratch A10. this week.

I want to be able to use timecode with Traktor but I’m not sure what else I need to know and how to set this all up.

I want to be able to use and record the filters on the Xone 92 and and the effects in Traktor (will buy a MIDI controller to control looping and effects in Traktor) and I want to be able to record my DD7 delay pedal effects as well. Is this all possible? What cables would I need?

What is the best way to set this up? I presume I should be using Traktor in external mixing mode?

Please help me. Thank you very much in advance.

Hi Capz,

great choice on the Xone 92, really nice mixer, sure you’ll have lots of fun with it1

Yes, you need to run Traktor in external mixing mode.
Plug your turntables into your A10, then you’ll need 2 (or 4 if you want direct through to play actual vinyl as well) rca leads from the A10 into your mixer. Maybe have your Traktor channels as the middle 2, and your direct through vinyl channels as 1 and 4. There’s a full guide in the Traktor instructions.

connect your delay pedal on an aux send and return loop, coming back in on the mic / return channels.

The 92 has loads of output options - I’d recommend plugging your monitors / speakers into Mix 1, and link the record output back to a spare input on your A10 to record your mixes.

As standard the Xone 92 won’t send the mic / return channel to the record output. If you’re confident with a screwdriver you can take the faceplate off, and there’s a jumper you can remove inside to send the mic / return channels to the “record” output. This is detailed in the instructions and WILL NOT invalidate your warranty. There are jumpers you can remove to convert a phono input to a line input too, should you wish to do this. Keep the jumpers somewhere safe.

If you’re not keen to do this, you can always record from the mix 2 output (check that mic / return signal is coming through here too, I think it does), but I think this is at a nominal level of +4dBu instead of -10dBv so may not be such a good level match for the input of your A10, so if you have to turn it down to avoid clipping when recording, you’ll be closer to the mixer’s noise floor. The Xone 92 has a very clean signal path though so this shouldn’t be a real problem.

One other thing to be aware of with the filters is this.

Lots of DJs mix with the High Pass Filter always engaged (but turned down to 30hz). Adjust the resonance of the filters so that the level of the sub bass is the same with the filter turned on as when it’s turned off. In the mild position you’ll be losing some sub bass, and wild is a bit over the top. I personally like the 1 o’clock position.

The high pass filter also has an effect on the output level (filter ripple) so keep an eye on that. A&H recommend and average level of 0 on the meter, with peaks at +3, though in reality +6 is fine too. To achieve nice, clean recordings do as A&H recommend and keep signal peaks at +3.

One thing to be aware of with the A10 is that it does need to be plugged into a power source, it’s not USB powered. If this is going to be a problem try and get and Audio 8 instead.

Check out Loco Dice’s setup too:

Hope you enjoy your awesome new mixer!!
