A Controller For Four Decks In Traktor

A Controller For Four Decks In Traktor

Hi.

I’m new to this forum but, far from being new to DJing.

What controller are you guys using to manage four decks in traktor?

In the years past, I’ve used my keyboard and routed the audio outs into my mixing board. I was thinking about purchasing a controller however, the ones I found only offer two controllers.

Everyone in this place will say the Native Instruments S4. I dont have one, but going buy the amount of people here that have one they are very good!

allen and heath xone dx i love the layout and you get great mappings from the site for traktor and with the new itch 2.0 to be relesead in the next coming months i will def try converting!

s4, you get a free upgrade to traktor pro 2 as well

Cheers for the response!

Possibly my question was not clear enough.

I’m looking for a controller that offers four decks without a mixer (I have my own).

Is there such a device?

The American Audio VMS4 fits the bill and is fairly cheap.

Also, Check this review of four deck controllers out.

You could get 2 X1’s or 2 Midi-fighters.

traktor s4 or the DDJ-T1, you cant go wrong with either

and yeah the S4 gives u free Traktor 2 update in april

if i didnt already have the s4 i’d be all over the DDJ-T1 , i owned the CDJ400s before and i liked them, the DDJ-T1 has the layout of two cdj400s and a mixer in the middle which i like very much, plus a decent sized jogwheels and full sized pitch sliders

would i sell my s4 to get the ddj-t1? not really, but if i didnt already have the s4 i’ll be getting the pioneer ddj-t1 for sure

Possibly what I am looking for is not available.

What exactly are you looking for?

I am looking for four controllers on one chassis without a mixer.

I do not see the logic in using two controllers to manage four decks. Sooner or later you will need a separate control to manage all three or four decks at the same time. There are times I have four players looping and, I am in need of a 5th player.

I already have a mixing board so, I do not need a mixer embedded with the controllers.

Cheers!

although it has a mixer, you could probably map these to other functions

A mixing board? like, production thing?

a pair of dn sc2000/x1 could do the job then, depending on your style

Yes.

I have a small mixing board I use to mix on Traktor so there is no need for me to
buy a device that offers only two controllers with an on-board mixer, when I need four controllers with without a mixer.

Possibly two x-1 controllers is what I need.

Does anyone know if I can use two x-1 controllers on one traktor program?

yup, they map automatically to all decks

Most definitely.

I hear you mate. However, there’s really no such thing as a single 4 deck Traktor optimized controller. There are a lot of controllers, which can be mapped to control all 4 traktor decks, but they won’t be, so to say, optimal as an S4 would be. You can use them in external mixer mode as you so wish.

Here are few examples for potential controllers, which can be used with external mixers:

  1. you can get Novation Lunchpad - it has 8x8 grid and can be used like 4 (2x2) Midifighters with the deckalized mappings. Here’s a link to one such project: Deckalized Launchpad (from MidiFighter Mapping)

  2. You get an APC40, which has all the buttons in the world + enough sliders and knobs for controlling all FX, loops, etc - pretty much everything in traktor

Both these examples will give you fully functional and very powerful controller setup, but is this what you want?

  1. Reloop Contour has implemented mapping for 4 decks traktor control. Not 4 at a time, but you can switch decks and this will give you controll over all 4 decks.

That said, if you want optimal surface for straight-forward 4 decks Traktor control with external mixer, this would be two X1s. There is a reason why most of the DJs using traktor in clubs are using one or two X1s, depending on the number of decks.

Alternatives to the X1s (again best to be in pairs)

  • Allen & Heath Xone:1D (or the 2D, if you want built in audio interface)
  • Reloop Contour
  • Denon SC-2000

Right!

I watched the X-1 video and it seems the be suitable for the job.

I’ve noticed there isn’t a pitch slider. Can I use one of the knobs as a pitch control by manipulating the midi layout?

Cheers!

dude, get a look at the videos of the S4. It will be a much better setup than anything else you cat add to your live mixing console.

Also, the bundled Traktor with the S4 will give you the needed 5th deck.

there’s nothing better you can get than what the S4 is …
