okay so like i lurvvv djing liek n oober bunch and jus recently started doing everything digital because it seems liek theres jus sooooOOoOo much more you can do, uno like alot of room to be really creative with it.
Ive mostly been using tracktor and ive tried deckadance a few times but found it too confuising XP gah! but Recently a good friend of mine said abelton is the software i want if i really want to start getting creative with my mixes, and since ive heard the name like alot on various sites i figured id give it a go :b
so i like downloaded the demo to try it out and such but i honestly cannot seem to understand it at all! is it really a djing software or is it like for those boys who produce there own stuff, or like jus like to play synthdraments live or whtva?
Ive messed with everything i can on it and i cant seem to find where the decks go or anything like that, i did find the cross fader and how to assign individual songs to each channel but theres only one transport arrow! how does one work with that? its like one has to preplan everything or sutting and jus let it playâŚi dunno ne help would be great, ive watched alot of theyre lil videos but its really vauge and no help at all.
Ableton Live is really a full music production package from which, if youâre clever and highly motivated, you can create a DJing setup. Itâs not really a DJ package, just like Photoshop is not really a the simplest package to remove redeye from your photos - sure it can do it, but itâs got some weird ways of working and itâs way overpowered.
Iâm sorry you got confused by Decadance, I have the same problem. Itâs not easy to get into, is poorly documented and itâs missing some important pieces. Most of us here are waiting for it to mature. Iâd suggest you start with some purpose built DJ software like Serato Itch or Traktor before you branch into the advanced world of Ableton Live mixing. Get to know the functions you enjoy using before you drop yourself into a completely customizable world without limits.
Sometimes limitations are good, especially when youâre starting off. Itâs more important that you get a good mixing experience right out of the box than you have complete power to change everything. Try again with a different package and donât get discouraged - DL a demo version and take the tutorial!
hey kayla welcome to the community yea live is complicated but crazyâŚidk if you understand like when you get to know it you can turn your set to a crazy and awesome performanceâŚi would say go with traktor im assuming that you are just starting and i bet you dont want to spend $500 on ableton liveâŚableton live is really a soft for producing with capabilities of djing thats at least how i see itâŚis a really good software i would say one of the best..but once again if you want something more simple TRAKTOR is the way to goâŚ
awz fer shure ya i feel pretty âat homeâ with tracktor and i gezz i dun wanna get ahead of myself :b OMGz n ive been like using photoshop since i was 15 and i still cant say i am an expert at it XD haha
i guezz ill jus keep traktor as my main focus n mess around wit abelton alot n mayb ill finally understand it alil ^ ^ i heard liek dj sasha uses it and ino he produces alot of his own stuff so mayb i jus hev to get into producing more to understand it too bah! thatll b a crazi task! the idea of occilators, waveforms, modulation, filters, frequencys and all that blows my lil mind! XD
yea luigi u got a point there only you and the rest of you freaks knows how to use ableton is soooooo confusing geezzzâŚanyways traktor is awesomee and really easy to use to be honest you can get crazy with it too with all the loops and effectsâŚim still learning lol
it is just me or more girls are getting to the djing scene !! awesoem i dont feel lonely
First off great having you here! I agree with Limey and luigi, Ableton is a completely different ballpark.
Itâs best to specialise with regular DJ software, before learning new tricks with Ableton.
hey her vci is awesome but why would you change your silver vci for the black one just because of the black color and the knobsâŚi dont think is worth to pay more and if you already have the silver i would stay with itâŚi have a VCI that i bought a long time ago it came with a 1.1 firmware and let me tell you i would not change it âŚthe only reason my sister (nathaly) got the black because she is so picky and spoiled and she like to have everything her way
Youâre probably going to want to get a good grasp of how the digital DJ world works before you branch into something as open ended as Ableton Live. Iâd say use Traktor until it makes sense. Get the guides, read them, find the tutorials, for the very simple stuff. Once you figure that out and it makes sense, then branch out in Traktor and take advantage of its power.
Then, once you understand how the flow of Traktor works for you, what you like and donât, and what you want more of, then try out Ableton.
Really? My reasons are aesthetic, which is pretty shallow, I know, but what can I say! I would only have to spend the money myself someday to get my VCI re painted and pay for the rubber faders etc that Ean is bringing out.
dont want to steer you away from this forumâŚ
but check out abletonlivedj.com
tons of great info on getting started in ableton
i started out in ableton to dj with and moving on to traktor pro (when it comes out of course). traktor seems more dj oriented, and ableton lacks multiple cue points and loops
iâll still probably do ableton sets every now and then just because its still a lot of fun
Ableton is missing alot of really basic dj stuff, its a great tool for producing or using it as an fx and/or sampler unit but thats about as far as it goes.
Cue points are acheived by cutting the track into sections which takes alot of time and pacience, especially compared to droping some cue points in Traktor. Its missing Beatjumps completely, it has looping but not as good as Traktor, theres no advanced transport controls, its missing vinyl emulation(but thats hardly that big a deal). I control my songs in Traktor then use Ableton to drop in single hits, fx and for recording audio for audio looping(different from Traktor looping, makes it possible to loop cue point juggles).
