Alternative carry solution _ DIRT CHEAP !

Alternative airline carry solution _ DIRT CHEAP !

I travel to DJ by plane quite often, sometimes 4 times a month, so i have had the problem of taking equipment through customs, nazi/ryanair like luggage restrictions etc.

So i did a bit of research into bags and tings …

Firstly the S4 needs a sleeve like any notebook .. I found a fantastic thing on eBay, there’s a bloke in the UK making padded sleeves for £15 and they are top quality.

I’ll include a link but if the moderators want to remove it ..no problem.

thats got the S4 wrapped up tight and secure, but it needs to live in a bag of some sort.

Given that I have to fly with some economy airlines, i have to go by the cabin restictions of 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm

Again after extensive searching I found another supplier (who also trades on eBay to make things easier) that produce cabin sized holdalls/backpacks.

I chose this one which is the smallest of the range and it just fits the s4 inside (at a squeeze) , but i have zero problems in customs ..

there’s room to add 1" of foam either side to make it even more protected and they make a bigger one, but you maight end up having to put your valuable S4 inside the hold … and it may or may not get to the same destination as you …

I don’t joke about this as many times I’ve had records go to another country for a week whilst I try to explain to the club i should be working in, that the airline has sent the tunes to Egypt for a weeks holiday and I can’t spin that night …

I hope this helps you find a solution soon … the S4 is loads of fun in airports, especially if you have an XPS or HP beats with their big speakers ..

RECENT ADDITION

PS no these are not my sales, why would you suggest that ? I was offering my own tried and tested solution for going through customs almost EVERY weekend.

If you think its a crap solution, then thats fine … show me another solution that does the same AND I can take through customs with no problems …because I am ready to buy it

thkssss

nice one think ill get one of these bags well cheap. I do love the traktor flight case but its just a bit heavy cheers m8.

solution not very good. IMO -I think for the money I’d rather just get an oakley bag s4 was close to a g bone. but good luck with your sales !

Thanks for the update about the sleeve I may be picking up an s4 very shortly.

@FKR I highly doubt he holds either of those eBay accounts. This would be a very elaborate ruse just to try to sell us some stuff on eBay. I mean think about it. Make an account on dj message board. Hang around for a year or so. Gain the cred I need to sell them my wares. Seems a bit silly.

I posted that sleeve thing in the “what to carry it in” thread so doubt he’s the eBay account holder,

Looks a good option, thinking of getting that and the gator bag

I just ordered one of these to go with my gator bag that came yesterday!!

Cool man, let me know how it fits

Expecting this tomorrow so I’ll get you some pics. Used the gator bag yesterday to take my gear round a mates house. S4, midi-fighter, headphones, 2 USB cables, power cable for s4, external hard drive and a bunch of other cables (RCA’s etc). All fit just fine with room to spare. Unfortunately I have a 17 inch laptop and the laptop specific compartment is for 15 inch max. This isn’t a concern for me though as I have a carry sleeve for my laptop which is more than sufficient. However, if I did have a 15 inch laptop it would fit in the bag without any fuss even with all my other gear.

No they are not my sales .. firstly I’m in Spain .. both sellers are in the UK … well thats where they posted them from anyway. Secondly I was just offering an alternative solution which I use every weekend.

If you don’t want or like, then don’t buy … simple

As for a solution … try any other bag going through Customs ! you’ll see why i changed to a different solution … the other bags are just TOO BIG !

but if you are just a bedroom/small local gig sorta DJ … then obvoiusly you can use anything as big and heavy as you need/want …

I have to take into account that baggage handling in all European airports is haphazzard, it damages everything that they handle and has a VERY strong chance of getting your S4 sent to another destination.

The blue sleeves all good then?

No problems and I like it:smiley:

What’s the weight like with all that in. I’m flying with Ryanair on Sunday and their weight allowance for hand luggage is 10kg.

The heaviest part of my rig is the laptop (17" XPS L701) and it’s 150W PSU.

Without them, but including everything I need to gig with is 5.6Kgs.

With them it’s 10.1Kg.

Normal gig kit

S4 and PSU
Power conditioning power board
XPS L701 x and PSU
WD USB3 ext HD
cables for everything
microphone
headphones

spares of most of the above except the big stuff. To make it 10Kg, just wear the headphones on your neck … sorted.

Be careful with Ryanair though, many a time they let you leave the country unchecked, but ALWAYS check when you return … don’t guess with them, thery are manic about weight and dimentions …

Sounds like a winner! I’ve got a 13" MacBook so shouldn’t be a problem for me, nice one

Thank you for this!!.. I have to travel in 2 weeks and I have been waiting for DJTT to start selling their S4 bag but at this point with their date changes, im giving up… Ive been carrying my S4 around in its original box which is almost broken now.

DJTT store seems to be suffering from a cash flow problem (hence the blog post a few weeks back asking for investment) so all their resources seem to be going into the new midi-fighters which means other products are being pushed to the side lines. Their bags will be back in stock eventually but i wouldnt expect it to be any time soon. I would give up on your trusty box and buy either the bag in the OP’s first post or the Gator bag.

Thanks Kooper.. I just placed my order for the Gator bag

I saw those blue sleeves a while back but wasn’t sure if they were any good. What (if any) padding do they provide?

Great cost effective solution, thanks for the info!
