Another interesting POV from a Legend
PS: MODS, how do I increase image size?
PSS: Thanks Jester, obviously I don’t need it any larger.

While I agree that current pop EDM is a monstrosity, I can’t help but wonder why so many people think electronic music is sacred. I don’t buy/listen to the radio. Why should I let it bother me? The FM presets aren’t even set in my car.
House music and warehouse parties still happen all the time…

Danke
i’m sorry, i agree with the whole ‘progressive’ ‘trance’ bullcrap coming out. but there is just so much more to edm than that. And to be honest, who cares? Let the poppy, mainstream dancecrapsters have there thing and let the rest of us do theirs.
Plus I see a lot of big non poppyhouse-parties lately, namely with techno.
Wolfgang, pull your head out of your ass.
I hate it when any music producer claims to have an infinite knowledge of the genre and then make a general bullshit opinion based off the little knowledge they really have.
I also love this stigma that is currently in the air, thinking that Daft Punk is actually going to ‘change’ something… LOL!
Wolfgang, you’re paid for your music, not your opinion.
neither are you, yet you posted yours.
Told!
Lad.
Yes sir, you who have influence and longevity in the music seen mustn’t have an opinion… only digital music forum members are allowed one!! ![]()
I agree with Wolfgang but I cant help but think that whilst his sound is nothing like the sounds he is talking about, he is yet to produce a track that doesn’t sound exactly like his last record!
I must have forgotten that period in time when all EDM was good. Although I do agree with the whole mashing of genres thing to play to the blind hoard. It’s that blind hoard that’s at fault though, not the producers who still produce what they love to make, not what the love to get paid for.
Me personally I miss the times when techno was edm and only gay men liked disco.
You used to dance with your mates, and occassionally turn to face the DJ (when he pulled something off). This was awesome - it was inclusive.
Now, they face the DJ and occsassionally turn to their mates…
Seems kinda boring to me. You’re waiting for something to happen so that you can interact with your mates, when really, you should be constantly interacting with your mates, and only being momentarily disturbed to turn and show the DJ a little appreciation.
I loved the old way. I don’t like the new way.
Yep, this, pretty much.
It’d be a shame if people just mouthed vacant platitudes when asked questions about their profession. But I guess that if you can put on a decent party then you needn’t worry too much about other parties that other people are having.
I can’t fault producers like Wolfgang Gartner or DJ Sneak for speaking out. Every time a music scene is co-opted and watered down into a million dollar industry on the backs of underground movements that are receiving only the most marginal of “trickle down” residual benefits, it can conjure a really difficult to unravel mix of emotions.
However, maybe I’m not as familiar with Gartner as I should be, and I do like some of his tracks, but isn’t his music the kind of “big room” acidy bass genre-mash electro house that he’s talking about in his own quote?
Also, while I fancy myself an ultra-PC anti-capitalist who shudders at the effect of the culture industry, at the end of the day what aggravates me about calling a lot of this kind of music “dance” music, is that I rarely see people dancing to it. Otherwise, I try not to fault people for liking what they like. Only so many hours of the day and so many priorities.
Dj Sneak just went after Seth Toxler, calling him a ketamine dj or something lol
Wolfgang is fairly commercial. He does big room electro. He does have his own unique style and sound though. I’ll give him that.
Ha ha, I love it. Every DJ Sneak interview has basically become a WWE promo.
Thanks for the heads up on Wolfgang Gartner. I thought maybe I was missing something.
IMO the problem is on the new people. Most of the new producers say, I wanna sound like X or I wanna have a song that reminds to X or I want to have the same synths as X. I think things will start to change when everyone starts to understand that it’s about your own style, not the one you’ll get paid for. However, this is gonna take too long. And btw I gotta say something about this Daft Punk album:
“It’s not EDM, but it’s more like real music you can dance to”.
That’s what I was thinking.
To my ears he makes the type of stuff he’s slagging off, cheesy shite electro.
