Folks who supported the home team…I got mine on the way and am wondering if the DJTT ones started hitting some front doors yet. How was the video?
Also I saw on the NI forum a few guys that had issues with the jogs. Wondering if this is “batch” specific and if we’ll see any sent from DJTT with hardware issues.
What jog wheel problem? Cause my right jog wheel activates scratch mode when its supposed to (when I press down on it) but to get the music to start playing again (or de activate scratch mode) I have to put pressure on the bottom left of the left jog wheel when I release it most of the time for the music to start playing again.
By no mean does it really bug me, especially once I figured out how to work around it - i’m just curious if that is what you were referring to. Sorry if it’s a little vague.
If thats what you were talking about then I do have the same problem, but I bought mine from Guitar Center.
That’s not what I was referring to though. Some guys have had some issues where the actual jog was loose and un-usable. Not sure where those guys ordered theres from but am thinking there is probably a pretty big group of guys that bought thiers from DJTT and with a the few known issues out - i’d hate for people to come down on DJTT for an issue with the S4. So I’m wondering if any DJTT ones have shown up yet and if there have been any issues and solutions so the guys who get them here can share info ahead of time.
I recommend you check out the NI forum. There are some solutions posted for the jogs.
I ordered mine from the NI webshop and I was one of the first to post an issue about the jogwheels on the NI forum last friday.
My problem was that the signal coming from my left jogwheel was very unstable. When pressed the signal would go away or stay without pressing. Also when you pitchbend and you look at the pitchfader on the screen, it goes up when you turn backwards and down when you go forwards, which is normal. In my case it would jump all over the place and just act weird.
Eventually I took the top-plate from the jogwheel off by holding the outer ring, press hard on the top-plate and turning it counter clockwise. I repositioned it again and clicked it back into place. After recalibrating the problem was solved. I just guess that some people’s controllers were handled a bit roughly during transportation or something, because I can’t imagine these controllers going out of a factory like that.
Im gonna put an Official post about potential Jog Wheel issues on the NI forum.
This Left Jog Wheel issue was flagged up at Beta stage and is easily fixed by removing and reattaching the jog wheel.
For now anyone having this issue should do this:
Hold the outer rim of the Jog Wheel firmly and depress the top plate and turn counter clockwise to make the clips on the plate attach properly to the jog wheel. You should feel it click into place.
You MUST recalibrate your jog wheels after this.
If this doesnt firmly attach the Jog. You should repeat the procedure but turn the plate clockwise to remove the plate completely and then reattach it as releasing it sometimes helps with making it attach again.
Yeah mate its cool. The more people can read the solution quickly the less we will have guys running around like headless chickens when they have the issue.
My left jog wheel was faulty when i got my S4 and none of this had been reported so you can imagine how i felt on unboxing the S4, i was nearly in tears.
A simple press and twist was all it took to fix.
Im trying to get to the bottom of the cause right now.
I have to say, I am extremely dissapointed by all of this.
Karlos, as somewhat of an expert on Traktor as well as controller hardware, you must not have been quite as panic’d as most people encountering problems. Do you not agree that considering the biggest selling point of this unit is plug-and-play and build quality as a close second (as well as all the other new features being a close second), that the S4 is becoming a boarderline fail? I’m saying this from the standpoint of a user who doesn’t like to loose hair over problemshooting, and disslikes tweaking hardware. When I bought CDJ’s, they didn’t require any recalibration. They didn’t require that I pull off the jog and snap (slight_smile: anything back in. This kind of freaks me out to be honest.
Back on topic: I fully support DJTT’s, and that’s why I try and buy my equipment from them even though it costs me more with shipping and takes much longer to get to my door (I have learned over several purchases). But the fact is, DJTT does cost more and/or it takes much longer to arrive. Simply put, you need to up the competitive anti because little things like this are going to sway your customers away. Maybe be champions of fast shipping? I know it’s an extra cost, but one that will make customers happy, and keep customers from potentially leaving.
PS I hope like hell that my S4 gets here today. Nothing better than recieving a package before a weekend, and nothing worse than getting it on a monday.
I highly doubt that it’s a transportation issue is all these people from different parts of the world have the same issue. And if it was an issue of misshandling during transportation, it must have happened in one of the first or second points straight out of factory. I would fully hold Native Instruments accountable for this. It is their responsibility to package their equipment properly, and also their resonsibility to get it to the 3rd party shipping companies in perfect condistion. Since different people shipped with different companies, I would say the problem came from the source. Really, Native Instruments should have did a better job with this, and has only caused their customers as well as themselves headache.
My point is, as a digital product, and one that features out-of-box playability, no consumer should have to fix anything.
There are definitely people out there that are not that technology savy, even if they are using a DVS. There are people out there that will never use a forum. It just so happens that we know of all the benefits of an online community, but there are definitly people out there that don’t.
Back in the day, when people had to use turntables was way back in the day. People haven’t had to use turntables for some time now as there has been plenty of options out there. CDJ’s definitely changed the game. And they’ve been around for the better part of a decade, and have always been plug-and-play out of box.
The fact that the S4’s first release has issues is a fail in my opinion. Certainly not plug-and-play.
I see your point on how this product ‘should of been a plug and play item’, and the left jog wheel problem is something that consumers shouldn’t have to deal with, but is it necessarily a fai? I dont think so. Didn’t faulty products also affect a significant company such as Apple, with their iPhone 4’s? They seemed to handle it fine and now the iPhone is probably the most wanted/requested phone in the world? I’m sure their sales back this up. I own a s4, and I found that it is in fact VERY plug and play. The jog wheel calibration only seems reasonable after a software update, not a huge ‘issue’ that causes it to be NOT plug and play. It seems the s4 isn’t for you, so what product would you go for then?
Oh, I actually have an S4 coming (hopefully today!).
I’ve never used Traktor before (besides some simple messing around in my studio) so I’m looking for my mind to be blown here. I like everything that the S4 is meant to offer, especially the plug-and-play usability.
My current weapon of choice is a Rane 57TTM. The plug-and-play usability of it is excellent. I appreciate being able to go into any DJ booth (assuming there is room) and plugging my 57TTM into one channel of the house mixer (always a Pioneer 4-channel or A&H 4-channel), and then plugging in the USB to my laptop for instant playability. Mind you, I use CDJ’s with my 57TTM, and I realize a control platter is one less piece of equipment that can’t go wrong with a 57TTM, but I’m also quite able to play an entire set in Serato internally.
In the same fashion, the S4 is absolutely ideal for me. And of course, I will definitely re-calibrate the jogs. In fact, troubleshooting is the best way to learn, and I enjoy gaining more expertise on anything DJ related. I’m just saying, this unit should be built like a tank (plastic or not) and shouldn’t be sensitive enough that it requires fixes to problems that are present before the box is even cracked.
I did install the new updated software (which it does automatically), and I did turn the jog wheels the first night to get the “top part” of it to click in to place on the first night. I did it to both the wheels on the first night. The right one is the one that gives me (or used to give me) little bit of trouble till I figured out what was the problem and how to adjust to it.
I have a totally noob question now, how do I recalibrate my jog wheels? I’m in class right now and my cell phone does not want to open that NI forum link right now. So if its in that post, I can just read it when I get home in a couple hours.
