I can’t help you with compatibility questions but I picked up a DDJ-RX and RB DJ a couple months ago. I still use Traktor too but have been focusing on RBDJ lately. The browser section works great and I haven’t noticed any issues. Any specific questions?
The loop move feature of traktor is my most missed. I would sync up, grab an intro loop, cue up, scroll through the track, find the exact point I wanted to mix in, count measures backwards to my into spot, and make a smooth mix without any pre-planning. You cannot move a synced loop and keep it in phrase in rekordbox.
I am very pleased with the compatibility and reliability of rekordbox. In 5 years of DJing with traktor I never got to save my history of anything I did. It crashed “flushing background tasks” every time I closed it. I was always told it was due to an error in one of my 50,000 MP3 files. However when I loaded a fresh copy of traktor onto a secondary laptop with a completely different much smaller library I ran into the same problem when closing it down.
Never once have I had rekordbox crash on me.
I like the sequencer, the Fx and the great Release FX, the GUI and library management and to be able to use exact cue points and simplicity to export to CDJ’s.
Use the beat jump controls while the loop is active and it moves the loop position as well. The only downside compared with Traktor is you can’t move an inactive loop. This works regardless of your quantize settings.
Traktor has been my main DJ application for quite some time. If you use SYNC, I think it’s still a great program. That said, I am very enthusiastic about Redordbox DJ. Visually, I think it is more compelling to use. I actually sold my Traktor S8 and purchased a Pioneer DDJ-SX2 specifically so I could use Rekordbox. The effects are very compelling (although Traktor’s effects are really good). And I really like the integration between the controller layout and the software. There are a couple of things that bug me. The quantize feature doesn’t really work consistently which can be really annoying (I have it turned off). The software says it cannot locate certain files and yet when i relocate them it says it can’t add them into the collection because they are already there. Outside of that, I am a huge fan. I am looking forward to seeing what else they bring to the table.
If you have a Traktor controller, your best bet is to stay with Traktor.
So, are 100% of SX2 working as an RX? You said, Beats knob works as Release effects, what about Serato Flip Controls working as Sequencer in Rekordbox?
PD: why did you change the great S8 for the also great SX2?
Those are the two controllers I’m looking very serious to buy in few months. Did you get tired of S8 or Traktor, you missed the lack of jog wheels? Screens are too small or what?
I have been using Traktor for years and years, last year I invested in Cdj2000Nexus and wanted to use traktor through it and did not find it to be suitable for my style of mixing so bought a full Rekordbox licence for performance mode and have not looked back.
I find Rekordbox to be a much more superior way of sorting out my playlists and the preparation is useful to ensure all my Cue markers and loops are set and good to go when i do need them.
I still have my Traktor S5 and use it when i don’t feel like setting up the cdjs but now that I have used Rekordbox and got used to it I find Traktor pretty crap and glitchy, the amount of times i have finished my mix and hit the cue button to stop the track I have mixed out and the sound stutters, have called Native Instruments to complain and they agreed it is something people have complained about but they still have not released an update that fixes this issue,
For now I will use Rekordbox for 98% of my sets and know that it will go smooth.
I moved from traktor to rekordboxdj then right back to traktor after I got rekordbuddy working in a VM. THe only advantage of Rekordbox I could find was the ease of use when going to gigs that have 4 cdj’s already on hand. I was super dissapointed that pioneer pretty much said fuck it to DVS and never released the control vinyl ANYWHERE. I have the original pair that I bought and havent found any since.
I purchased my control vinyl for Rekordbox from the Pioneer DJ Store. Not a lot of third party sellers seem to carry it but it has been in stock for quite sometime.
I used Traktor exclusively from the early 2000’s until this year. Picked up a RX and I have been happy with Rekordbox. I still use Traktor but Rekordbox is quickly taking over.
I’ve been using Traktor since 2007. I got XDJ 1000’s last year. I decided to try out rekordbox. It’s a cool software to use. 90% of my music is from Promo only and XDJ doesn’t recognize the format. So I had some music from another record pool. Loadd it on to a flash drive, ran it through rekordbox and plugged it into my XDJ. For me it is ok as a back up. Too much of a learning curve and I use the remix decks often which are not available. Not sure if something similar is in the full version. Don’t care, I’m too invested in Traktor.
By the way, that was the most pointless video I have ever watched.
