Are midi fighters worth it?

Are midi fighters worth it?

I would just like to hear from personal experiences, if they are responsive and quick…The only thing that concerns me is the pricing ( 125 is quite a bit… and the controllers are even more 450!) I desire to buy one in the future but I want to hear what others have to say first…and also, Why shouldn’t i just buy a B-CONTROL FADER BCF2000-WH or make my own midi controller type situation? why is the midi fighter so popular?

Using Traktor I personally cant for the life of me see how I would use the midi fighter. But people on here seem to swear by them.

I’m well aware the above is of litte use as well.

It’s alright, i think i’ve basically decided and making my own gamepad midi fighter, apparently a playstation 2 controller is something like 4 faders and 14 buttons or something…Actually i just hooked one up using fergo joystickMIDI and it somewhat works…

Watch ean goldens video on the midi fighter. youll see some crazy shit acheived, and his mapping is available on this site

Yes they’re worth it. The arcade buttons are more responsive than any other controller on the market and unlike using the ps3 controllers and the like you don’t have to have any extra software running to convert the signals.

If you like doing the diy stuff from the ground up then go for it with the video game controllers, but by the time you factor in your labor doing it it will have cost you just as much if not more to buy a Midi Fighter.

Yes they are worth it, and worth a lot more. Doing a gamepad mod is fun, if you’re into DIY. But then you don’t have the led feedback that the midifighter has, and you don’t get the great support offered from the people here. The buttons are amazing, and look cool. Plus, if you check the blog post, they just added super-fader capabilities to the firmware; something no other controller on the market (besides the vci-100se) has.

+1 ^^ all that ^^

Love my Midifighter! Heck of a lot easier to use than the intense mapping I have for my controller…have to sometimes turn a knob while holding down a button to achieve the same thing I can with my MF with one push of a button!

I’ve had my midi fighter for almost a year now and I gotta say I love it. The arcade buttons are incredibly responsive. I use it for cues (bottom two rows), effects (top middle row) and pause/play etc (usually with decks c/d, top row). Part of the price you pay for it is quality, cause I gotta say, the thing is SOLID.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Midi Fighters are amazing, my MF’s have put my launchpad to shame, my friends Maschine, and it even makes my iPad seem dull.

+1 to all the pro-midifighter thoughts here. Arcade buttons are sick as hell. Sure make your own controller if you can, use arcade buttons and have all the advantages of the MF but set to your own design. But the MF is already done, customize it and snap it together – it’s something you can use right now.

Really, it just comes down to if you personally think it’s worth it or not. Some people swear by other pad controllers, some swear by MIDI Fighters.

I really think it’s a matter of figuring out what solution would work best with your personal style of mixing, and how you would incorporate another device.

The best advice I’ve heard about buying equipment is buy it when you need it, not because it’s something that looks cool and interesting. If you try to force a “neat” piece of hardware into your setup, you’re going to have more issues than if you get to the point where you say, man, I could really use X to help me do Y better.

Personally, for it’s price, I really don’t think it’s a terrible deal for a MIDI Fighter, if what you want is non-velocity sensitive buttons. But since there are so many other similar options out there (the dicer, maschine, MPC’s, nanoPad, X1) it’s well worth the time to understand which would extend your personal options and make your work-flow smoother.

I just use it for simple stuff:
Beatjumps,
Nudging,
getting back to the 1st cue point of tracks

I can’t imagine of a controller doing this job better than a MIDIfighter.

And it is sooo good looking, I want 10 of them just to have a superMcspace awesome looking setup of doom!

The Midifighter mapping is cool. I think the LEDs make it slightly better, but the extra pad banks, faders, and knobs on an mpd also make that option incredibly viable.

if you had asked this before the silicon sleeves arived I would have said a few things differently. One thing that remains the same and has already been mentioned is the highly responsive buttons… all that is great.. and it is just arranged for some really nice action in a perfect footprint.. you really cant reinvent the wheel with the MIDI fighter.

the thing I would have said differently … is the midi fighter feels very cheap and looking to die with the open frame. When I ordered it originally… there was a delay because their prototype was not meeting djtt quality standard. So I was happy with it… having it to noodle around with.. but I felt it was just cheap in terms of putting it in a bag and risking something falling inside.

but…

once the silicon sleeve arrived… all my fears were put to rest.. the sleeve is super thick and adds happy weight to the whole midi fighter. Now I really love picking it up and like the solid feeling. I was so addicted to this, that I added another 50 grams of weight onto it with glow in the dark plastic molded onto it

if your strapped for cash, the novation decers are a good 2nd place

Forgot to add that I also use it in Ableton to program drums.

This idd would have been a nice option too, though I might have gone the MPD16 route if the MIDIfighter was non existant.
