Audio Interface/ speaker/ amp problem

Audio Interface/ speaker/ amp problem

Alright guys so I have been twisting my head around this issue forever. My problem is that one side of my speaker keeps getting weaker or goes out.
What I have set up is my mac running ableton connected by firewire to a presonus firepod. The fire pod then has trs cables running to a small behrenger xeenyx802 mixer. Then connected to that via rca is an old Yamaha r-700 amp.. connected to that via speaker wire are two ns 6 speakers.

What I have done to try and fix the problem.

  • reverse the speaker wire… to determine that both speakers work.. they do..
  • soldered the tips of the speaker wire and cleaned up any loss ends to make sure there was not a short
  • switched out the little behrenger mixer with another one to determine that it was not the mixer.
  • took my amp in to get it tested.. was cleaned and all of the connections work
  • switched out audio interface … it did not help.

Any help/ideas would be awesome! Thanks guys

Sounds like a short in your speaker or the speaker wire connection.

the weird thing is… I just discovered it does not happen when I do not mess with the volume knob on my behringer mixer.

the link in your chain with the most components to cause you the problem is the mixer. it could be an intermittent fault. Do you really need the mixer in your signal path?
