batch convert samples so they are all the same pitch?
So I have a bunch of samples and they are individually at a different pitch / key.
I don’t know what the original pitch / key of each sample is
I want to batch convert samples so they are all the same pitch / key, without stretching / warping
so I get a collection of new files at the same pitch / key.
How can this be done?
My usage scenario will be to use the samples over a DJ set. playing them in key with the tracks.
they will be loaded up in an Ableton Live drum rack, with a midi pitch effect inserted before the sample, which are all mapped to one macro of the rack.
I can then select a pitch / key that will play harmonically with the current track playing in my DJ set
as long as you find out the pitch of the samples are all say “C”
set the range to 12 for the pitch macro (0 to 11)
you can change to any key of the 12 notes in an octave.
0 = original pitch and each number goes up one semitone
00 - C
01 - Db
02 - D
03 - Eb
04 - E
05 - F
06 - Gb
07 - G
08 - Ab
09 - A
10 - Bb
11 - B
it’s just a case of getting the samples to the same key of “c”
I could tune the samples in simpler by setting the transpose setting, whilst playing on another track a basic held note is playing the note i’m aiming for.
when they sound the same/ in key it’s left at that setting
that’s almost there, however the samples will be stretched by the transpose setting, and again if changing the pitch macro.
so I need to get the original samples changed to a common key of “C” without warping/stretching
Can you also write up what you are doing and how you are doing it?
I’ve always wanted to be able to “grab” a sample (a note from a riff, lets say) regardless of what note it is, and then be able to play it in key with whatever (other) track I’m playing.
It was with toneplay in mind, but I’ve never really got there.
You’ve mentioned some of Lives effects (midi/audio effects? Pitch?) and I know that there are other Live Midi effects (Scale?) that might be useful…
Have you heard of a M4L device called The Shwartzenator?
