BCR2000 & Traktor SCRATCH PRO problem with mapping

BCR2000 & Traktor SCRATCH PRO problem with mapping

Hi everyone..

I (finally) received my bcr 2000 and allready have a big problem!
I connected the controller to my laptop and installed the drivers..
Now I was getting started with mapping the bcr..
I’ll tell you what I’ve done so you can see if I’ve missed something

Connected the bcr and turned it on, installed the drivers, …
Started Traktor SP
Opened the MIDI SETUP and set all the bcr inputs and outputs to ACTIVE
Went to MIDI Mapping and pressed add; mixer; effect unit 1 ON
Interaction mode: toggle; type of controller: button; assignment: focus
didn’t do anything else to those settings.

So I press LEARN and press on a button of the bcr
BUT I don’t get anything with assigned.. so traktor doesn’t get the signal from the bcr..
And the midi indificator doesn’t light up or anything..
So I reconnect and so on but nothing..

I start up Traktor 3 and repeat everything and that DOES work

Is there anything I have forgotten? If so, why does it works with T3 and not with TSP?

Hope someone can help me…

Greetz.. Tical

I know your’e out there, Tekki… :stuck_out_tongue:

Dude, it WILL work under Traktor 3?

That’s strange man. Have you already tried to reboot? (In case of a windows environment)

  • Are you sure the preset on your BCR itself works properly?
(try pressing and holding edit and the button at the same time, followed by tweaking the rotaries on the toprow, just checking if a parameter is set, and that it is sending out a signal)
  • Is the Green USB led lighting up on your BCR, assuming you’re connecting it through USB?

You are talking about all the MIDI in and outputs, but I have just 1 on each. This reads “BCR2000 [emulated]”.

What OS are you using. (Could help on the USB identification part)

ok, think I’ve got it.. I was trying it out without the actual setup (with audio8 and tt’s) and when I change the audio setup to the internal soundcard, I get a signal..

Is this just plain stupid?

Oh yeah, now that I’ve got your attention :stuck_out_tongue:

-Got any good .tsi files that I can edit for my own use?
-Do I have to press learn on traktor AND the bcr?
-Got some other great tips?

Gonna start mapping tommorrow

Perfectly understandable.

-Got a good .tsi files that I can edit for my own use?
Ghahahaha, I could supply you with one, ofcourse, but the thing is, I use a custom BCR mapping to boot, so you would have to remap settings on your BCR too.

-And do I have to press learn on traktor AND the bcr?
You only have to press learn on Traktor.
TBH, I have never used the learn button on the BCR.

-Got some other great tips?

  1. Think what you want to control, and how you want to control it.
Being that you’re going to use it, everything has gotta be intuitive.
    (Workflow and operational)
So do take your time for it!
  2. Ofcourse you’re able to find loadsa TSI-files, but especially with the BCR, it is better to make your own mappings.

This is also because in this way you will understand and maybe even appreciate the little beaut.

Dammit, after typing this, I feel like Mr. Miyagi.

So I’ve done my mappings.. quite an adventure lol..

Got some questions though..

  • is there a way you can sync the position of the knobs in traktor and bcr?
I mean even when you start traktor so everything is just as you left it…
If you understand what I’m saying..

  • What do you guys use for labelling the device’s conrols? There are some white lines to write on but do you really write on it?

Traktor won’t default to the last values. You can just tweak all the knobs to get it to be where you want when you load it. Rather, if there is a way I haven’t found it. My EQ knobs will stay where I left them, as will master volume controls, but not effects (unless you save the defaults by hitting the little camera) or my channel volumes.

Write whatever allows you to visually recognize what things do. It’s a personal thing.

Hey Tical, there is an option that you can let Traktor follow the readout of your BCR. This can be achieved somehow, if I am correct, it would be something like adding the ‘software takeover’ setting.
(Don’t know this by heart, so I am going to have to come back to you on this one tomorrow.)

I use masking tape, schilderstape  , on mine.
Cheap as chips and easy to update.

ok! thanks for the tips! Looking forward to hear about that ‘software takeover’ stuff

btw is that you?

Ja, het is mij!

Will check in one minute.

It’s even easier, I just use the ‘analog fader/knob’ setting.

Traktor will follow the encoder, where it is. (Even though initially it may look something different, twist it a little and presto.

I’m also having difficulties with looping.. I’ve set some buttons for the loop size but when I press it, it doesn’t show up on the grid… even when I press on/off.. it works because I can see it changing in the loop bar below the grid; but it doesn’t come on the grid except when I click it with my mouse and then I can change the size or switch it on/off with my bcr..

Well, I use the relative option.. It has the same effect as when you use the analog  (analog doesn’t work for me, don’t ask me why lol) but I always have to put all the parameters to 0 before using it, I find that a little annoying

I also have a rotary set to scrolling my list, but eventually when I hit 127 I can move any further and I have to use my mouse.. 'lil pain in the ass but I can live with it

Thanks for your help, you’re great :d

Strange, that probably has to do with the toggle properties of the BCR together with some settings in Traktor.
It needs some tweaking, but it’s definitely manageable.

Did you use the relative on the BCR, or in Traktor?

Anytime man! Just come to me when you want to ask something about the BCR, I will see if I can help you out or not.

Cheers, and us BCR coltrollerists gotta stay together.

I’m gonna try to fix the looping in a minute.. I hope I can fix it on time, have a gig 2night and it’s the first with the bcr and with pro!

I use relative in traktor

yeah man, I’m glad you’re on this forum lol, don’t know what I’d do without your help!

Okee, good luck for tonight for starters.

You know how to set things on the BCR right? Once you’ve got that nailed, these things won’t bother you that much, as they are easily fixed.

Next to Traktor relative values, I use the BCR to map relative values. This way a relative will truly be a relative, and you will not need a mouse or touch pad if you surpass values of 0 or 127.
(True the LED will still give out 0 - 127, but only -1 or +1 values are sent)

If you’re convident enough for the gig tonight, use the BCR, if not, than forget about it.
Take some more time to tweak it and skip to conventional DJ media this time.

Thanks

How the hell do you do that?

I’m gonna take the bcr with me and see if I use it..for effects etc. it will come in handy, the other stuff I still have to master
Got time enough to experiment 'cuz it’s just me and a friend at a b-day bash all night long!

Well, this is done through the Global Edit on your BCR.

1.) Press and hold the “Edit” button on the right side of the BCR.
2.) Twist or press the knob or button you want to tweak.
3.) Release the Edit button.
4.) Use the top row of encoders to tweak what you like.
(Use the rotary marked “Mode” to switch from absolute to relative mode.)
5.) Press the “Save”, this one is located above the “Edit” on the right.
6.) Let it the LED on the “Save” button blink once or twice and press the “Save” button again, so it will stop blinking.
7.) Press the “Exit” button which is located next to the "Edit"button.

But, good luck and most of all enjoy!
