Been hearing some BAD things about this mixer. (Korg Zero 4)

Lately I’ve been eying up this wonderful piece of gear. The Korg Zero 4.

Why ? It’s the one I like the most from this list: http://www.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=tscratchcertified&L=1

It 's a pretty old model it apparently doesn’t even support windows 7 (and maybe even vista) so that should tell you more then enough about it’s age. Nevertheless I think it’s a solid piece of kit.

But I’ve read somewhere (most of it on r/DJs) that it’s A TRUE PAIN IN THE ASS to set up and frequently has connection problems even with mac. And even worse that you could get a hissing sound right out of the box.
Some huge problems if you ask me.

I can pick one up for around €600, awesome price if you ask me.

Anybody can shed some more light on this ? Thanks. Search on DJTT wasn’t that helpful.

Hello mate,

I had one for a few months that I bought second hand from this forum. I thought it was an amazing piece of gear and didnt have a problem with it at all with my Mac.

The reason I got rid of it is that I realised that I prefer a much simpler set up because this thing has pretty much everything crammed on it. Plus I decided for gigging reasons it’d be easier to have an Audio 6 soundcard than lumping the zero around as its huge… actually it’s an absolute BEAST!!

I loved it. I’d have one today.

Not updating the user name yet?

Thanks guys both of these things are quite reassuring, I’m getting one of these in the near future.

I think I’m infected with the most agressive and unhealthy form of RGAS now.

i owned it for 2 years. it was fantastic. got rid of it when i moved continents.. was just too expensive to carry/ship.

worked very well with macs, excellent sound quality, good effects processor. it literally lights up like christmas.

i saw this on sale here in singapore awhile ago for dirt cheap, they were getting rid of it due to low demand and the lack of support of drivers or whatever i heard

looks good tho

I bought one about a half a year ago. I really hated small plastic knobs :rage:. IMO this is like an instrument, very samll and crowded… I couldnt make it work with any of my computers (constantly crash on win vista and 7), however it worked perfectly on my friend’s macbook. Also note that it will be hard to find spare parts…
I paid 700€ for mine, sold it for 350€. This thing was monster 4 years ago, but now, with no updates I think 600€ is way too much.
I wonder if can you put chroma caps on it? That would be cool, but I wouldnt buy it, except if you have macbook.

Guitar Center has a used one for 400 smackers in the US

It does ‘hiss’ a bit, and is a bit flimsy, but the analogy to it being like an instrument is appropriate. It’s not made to hit the road and get beat to hell, as frankly, it wouldn’t make it long. It is a very flexible, and capable mixer that stands up to contemporary mixers (Extensive I/O, if you can think it, you can hook it up; Midi Map-able channel strips/faders; Scratch Certified sound card; An effects processor per channel, as well as Master effects processor). It was doomed unfortunately, once every one and their mom dogged it for being noisy, feeling flimsy, and being as expensive as it was (all fairly legitimate gripes). Even though they reduced the price on them at some point, it was too late. The mixers reputation was solidified.

This is my second Zero mixer (owned an 8 before this), and I would buy one again. The problem is I can’t quite explain why…
