Hi everyone, i’m new here and a beginner and am trying to decide on what gear to start with. I’d prefer to buy a pretty minimal setup for now to see how I get on, while also having the option to add bits in the future (without making my previous purchases completely redundant).
I’ve been doing lots of reading around these forums and so far i’m thinking about numark’s V7, just using the 1 with the deck switch to start with and learning the basics like beatmatching etc with it.
I’m not a massive hip hop fan or anything: more into techno, minimal and electronica atm (indie too) so scratching isn’t a priority or anything (tho don’t mind having it there as an option to play with). Does this seem like a reasonable choice?
I don’t have too much money to spend on the mixer just yet so I was thinking of getting the Stanton SA.3 (about £159), does this seem ok to start with.. or is there anything else better at around the same price?
If in the future I decide to get an ableton controller like the apc 20/40 would it fit in with this setup ok, using the bridge between itch and live would this need a 3rd channel in the mixer or would the 2 channels of the SA.3 work just fine?
don’t go and get kickass decks & controllers only to run your sound though a shitty mixer. never ever do that. get something good like ecler, urei, vestax, rane or a&h. avoid pioneer unless you can’t help it.
ctrld - yeah that’s a fair point, well after a quick search i’ve found a couple of choices for mixers that are a bit more expensive… definitely would be tempted tho
A&H XONE 22 (about £249)
or
Ecler Nuo 2.0 (£299).
I’d probably side more towards the XONE 22 as the Nuo seems to be aimed more towards scratching, and the XONE apparently has a built in filter which could be nice. Tho they both have their pros and cons. Does this seem like a good choice, reckon it would be worth the extra cash?
photojojo - Yeah thats an option.. would be cheaper to start off with and nice and compact too, or even with the money I would be spending on a V7 & Mixer I could get something really nice.
But I dunno tho, the V7 appeals to me - it just looks fun and i think i would enjoy learning with it. Plus I kinda like the idea of having each part separate so I have the option to add or swap things around in the future.
Hmm.. its tough tho, don’t want to buy something and end up regretting it afterwords
Yea think i’ve pretty much made my mind up then: the V7 & XONE 22, tho just gonna give myself a couple of days to sleep on it just incase i change my mind..
It’s not out yet, but I think it would really be worth the wait. Only around a month and a half until it’s out. Also, that way you’ll be able to save some more money to buy it with as it may just be a little out of your price range.
Plus it comes bundled with Traktor Pro S4, so there’s no need to purchase Traktor Pro at extra cost.
