Beginner help

hi, not sure if i’m posting in right part of the forum. Just joined this forum so forgive me for being nooby, but went out the other night having just turned 18, and was inspired by Joel Corry DJ’ing, he played an awesome set. Always been into music, electro/house style, and I’m constantly looking for new songs listening to hardwell podcasts, showtek, avicii, martin garrix etc.
Really want to get into dj’ing, and I want to start mixing at home etc 'cause it looks really hard to begin with. I have my Macbook and been fiddling about with virtualDJ! Looked for cheaper decks online and saw a couple of Gemini and Numark brands with mixer and turntables for around £200, which i think are for newbies. Need help on what to buy please and the additional things to buy with this to mix at home! thanks:smiley:

  1. What is your budget? (This will determine the next question to some extent.)
  2. Do you want to use turntables, CDJ’s, or an all-in-one controller?
  3. Do you have headphones and/or speakers?

1.Hi thanks for the reply! I’m not really looking for long term serious equipment at the moment so up to £300 maybe at the moment, I’m not too sure on the cost of equipment so would love your advice.

You don’t need tables to start. You can skimp on money and just do what you’re doing til you pick up the basics of mixing, phrasing, etc. From there you can branch out to a controller or tables/CDJs.

Buy a Mixtrack pro. You could headline with Ultra comfortably with one of those, they are dirt cheap, and will last you all the way up until you can afford some big boy toys. That’s toys for big boys, not large boy-toys, before anyone asks.

yeah i agree with Sambo Numark Mixtrack Pro is what I started out with and it’s a great affordable beginner controller!

Stay away from the dj-in-a-box stuff from numark. They do have some good gear, just not those sets. However, learn to mix on those, and you should be able to mix on anything. As for Gemini, if you are going to get their decks, the PT series is the only one you should look at. You don’t need to start on turntables, but there’s a certain amount of street cred that comes from spinning an all vinyl set.

Thanks for your advice guys, appreciate it. After researching etc and looking online at your suggestions, Ive been recommended a few controllers in my price range and would love your advice on which one to buy:
-Numark mixtrack Quad
-Numark mixtrack Pro II
