I have a budget of around 500$. Would like to buy 1st controller. Thought about mixtrack pro 2. But its quite small ( i have big hands ) and might be useless after few weeks because of lack features. I have good motivation to get in dj business, so i wont let it go after few tries. Thats why i think about numark N4. Its bigger, and will be longer up to date, to train more skills. Any advices ?
If youâre into a lot of effects and possibilities, I recommend a Akai APC40, with the saved money you can get a pretty decent soundcard (assuming you donât have one already).
I guess it all depends on what program you are using to dj with. From all the controllers I have tried so far, I would go with an apc40 if you are using ableton and a vestax vci-400 if you are using traktor.
If you have big hands/fingers I would stay away from the Denon MC3000. While it is a nice controller it is really smashed together and you will have a hard time turning the EQ knobs. I had this issue when I looked at one in Guitar Center.
I would suggest buying something used.
Also, Iâm sure this is obvious, but just in case, guitar center and other stores have everything set up for customers to test. Itâll give you a chance to see if you have enough room for your fingers.
I wont buy anything used. Id better like to spend some more money to have it new and guaranteed. I did some mixes in VDJ, but its not a problem for me to learn about traktor or serato. When i looked through more controllers, those wich i liked were on Serato, and i also took a look on program itself. So id like cotroller mapped for Serato or VDJ.
Iâd say go for a mixtrack pro. Itâll save you money for a good pair of headphones and/or a better controller later on. Itâll also let you test Traktor and Serato, so youâll know exactly what youâll need in the future.
Oh, and itâs got nice big platters, so itâs convenient to learn how to beatmatch.

So if u propose mixtrack wouldnt be better if i invest more money and went N4 ? Because i heard some fresh djs opinions that mixtrack got useless after 2-3 months and they swap it with some more advanced controllers.
The new Mixtrack Pro II looks quite nice, whereas the N4 is horribly plasticy. Very few people mix on more than 2 track decks which is all youâd gain from the N4.
At now not. But i think about quite soon future. Im determined to dj and have extra money to spend. So that i keep on asking about other otpions then mixtrack, it is most basic controller as i found on internet.
The Mixtrack is a stepping stone. It lets you do the basic stuff and figure out what youâll want. By the time you get proper club gigs, youâll already have an idea of what you need and the money for it.
N4 is a useless controller, in my opinion. Itâs too expensive to start with and not cheap or good enough to compare with the other 4-deck controllers. Not to mention that itâs huge, so youâll probably end up using the CDJs half of the time in clubs anyway.
