Oh funny, I thought the S4 was small. I don’t mind a large setup. I have to have something to put on that 6 foot table they give me. All my other gear is in rolling carts. I do like the wow factor that the v7s get and it’s fun having the old duffers ask my why my 45 player doesn’t have a needle.
Do you know what, you’re the first person I’ve seen post that about the S4 size, I completely agree! I was surprised by the compactness when I went to demo it. I guess it was my first move away from TT’s after 15 years or so and was used to big, heavy kit like the 1210s along with the 19" mixer and cases of vinyl. I also looked/demo’d other controllers around in early 2011 and thought ‘these surely can’t be used for DJing, they’re too small, almost ‘My First DJ Mixer’ aimed at a 5 year old?!!!’. That’s not meant as a criticism just not what I was used to at the time.
No, you can run both itch and Traktor on the same computer. No need for a second computer (unless I don’t understand the comment?) You’d have to google for details but the guy who figured this out said there really wasn’t any additional latency.
I may still be wrong, but my comment was not in reference to needing two computers to run the two programs, it was about the itch software only letting you use all four decks if you run two computer s. One v7 is two decks, two v7s are two decks. No extra tracks available because one runs as a dummy essentially. Sorry for this post but my android phone isn’t the best and im too cheep to buy tapatalk.
Ive had an S4 since 2010 and I still love it. If you’re basically just using Traktor and 4 decks, you can’t get tighter integration. As previously noted, Scratch cert is another plus.
The downsides: its not a “true mixer”, I’ve found the sound to be noticeably lower than other sources, and it’s quite large, even compared to other 4 deck controllers, such as the Denon.
Ahh got it. Do you really want timecode on all four decks though? Especially with only two jog wheels; why not run A+B through Itch through traktor as recommended and then use buttons for C+D? I guess it depends what you want to do with them but personally I never saw the point of running more than two live decks except to show off your beatmatching skills. And if that’s your goal, you want turntables/CDJs anyway.
Actually, come to think of it, you can still do this with just one computer. I can use the same turntable to control decks A + C, and the same one to control B+D, all within Traktor. So if you have one instance of Itch sending timecode to traktor, you just have to configure traktor so that A+C decks are controlled by the same inputs. Then you just switch to timecode on whichever deck you need. (just be careful or one record will be manipulating two songs). But I used to do this all the time when I wanted to use deck C just for scratch samples while mixing on A+B.
