Best device to record dj sets straight from mixer

Hey guys! I’m looking for a nice and portable solution to record my sets, both at home and in the club. My friend suggested something like the H4N Zoom Recorder, but I guess there’s a lot of of Recorders and a lot of them might be overkill for me. So wanted to ask this question based on a few parameters:

  1. Would prefer if the recorder could be plugged in for power, instead of messing around with batteries at home

  2. Best possible sound quality

  3. Easy access to files (SD Card is fine actually but plugging in through a cable would be great)

  4. Does not necessarily need to be able to record outside sound (although at a good price point, a nice feature to get crowd noise etc)

  5. A standalone thing is a must (no soundcards for computers, etc. The whole point is to be clear of the computer)

So, any ideas/suggestions? Also if there has been a thread on this before, I wasn’t able to find it.

I don’t know of anything that meets all your requirements. In particular, “bus powered” is going to be TOUGH to get.

The Tascam DR-40 would be (and in fact “is”) my first choice.

Why are you so strict on not using the computer? You could easily get a camera kit and a behringer u-no for your phone

I use the Reloop Tape and have no issues with it at all. A great little device.

Because I don’t want to take my computer with me to a club in case I want to record. Something for the phone might be an option though… I’ll check that out, thanks!

H4n is worth it. Not too expensive and good for other uses.
I like the fact you can record crowd noise through the mic at the same time.
great for bands too

Yeah seems like I will go with something like that. I wanted something I could just plug in for power because I record a lot of mixes (always when I practice still I record, just to listen to what I’m doing wrong and what I’m doing right). But I guess rechargable batteries isn’t too much of a hassle for it. Thanks for the feedback guys.
