best isolation headphones

best isolation headphones

Hey guys

What are the headphones with best isolation in the dj world?

I’m starting to dj again, and I really don’t want to f*** my ears once I’m at a club. I don’t really care about great sound, if I want quality I listen music at my studio monitors…

Some technical specs would be great, but so far it seems this doesn’t exist… al the data I can find are very subjective interpretations.

TIA!

sennheiser HD25’s IMO are the best for sound isolation and djing.

Hi pier,

can u explain a bit more??? you say dont want great sounding phones but you dont want it to fuck with your hearing??? as in damage your ears???

am not trying to be wise ass here, i may be reading your post wrong way…
doncha think getting bad sounding cans would make it worse…

my apologise in advance if i misinterpret your post…

Well, if you want best isolation to protect your ears go for earplug headphones. A lot of djs now days use those. You can also go for simple earplugs. Use them under the headphones. They will let through just enough sound so you can work.
I haven’t tried this but heard that a lot of djs do this.

The Stanton SC-2000 supposed to be really great too.

If you don’t want to mess with your hearing check out the Ultrazone line. I can really tell a difference in ear fatigue between Pro 650’s and my Sony MDR7506’s after a couple of hours.

What I meant is that hi fidelity is not my main priority. Not looking for the high end perfect sounding headphones.

Of course bad isolation with bad sound makes it even worst…

Thanks for the recommendation.

I saw Ultrasone has also a dj line. Any input on those? What about isolation?

Thanks, I’ve considered that too. The thing is I like to check how the club sounds and removing the IEM and putting them back again is a pita…

Is it a fact the IEM have better isolation than traditional cans?

Those come up on every website I find… I think I may be giving a try.

Hi pier,

check out the aiaiai tma-1 ive had these cans for over two weeks and i am loving them… as for isolation they are great even for on ear design… it felt snug on the ears with little discomfort… soundwise i think they are awesome nice punchy mids, lows are tight not overpowering and the highs are crisp… but if you are used to highs on the senns you might not like the tma-1 in my opinion… my suggestion is try as many headphones u can in the end its what your ears like matters the most

cheers

Absolutely yes. Also custom fit IEM’s will give a greater dB reduction than generic IEM’s.

From http://www.sensaphonics.com/faq.html
How much ambient noise do they block out?
Despite competitive claims of equal or greater isolation, our research audiologists find that silicone material blocks out more sound than plastic. (Have you ever seen plastic ear plugs?) The super soft gel silicone used in our custom earphones and ER Series ear plugs reduces external sounds by at least 26dBA across all frequencies, the highest isolation available. Our research indicates that the actual isolation from products using plastic or acrylic, even with a soft canal portion, is only 18 dB A.
Here’s what I was looking for.

The Etymotic ER4’s are specced at:
98% (35 dB - 42 dB) noise isolation —highest of any earphones or headsets on the market today
. This would increase when used with custom molded earpieces.

http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er4.html

The ER4’s are pricy, but they are one of, if not the, standard reference driver for IEM’s.

Ear plugs are gr8. I have these, got them with phone.

I carry them to gigs, just to have a backup.
Note that these are probabbly worst plug headphones.

If you want to get good ones, for less money, get sennheiser and a custom foam earplug. Or even some from Walkman series of Sony.

i use mine for DJing and for my day job (eng cameraman)

Thanks for the info. If they can provide around 40db of reduction that can be interesting!

I don’t love IEM for djing… but if that’s the price for keeping my ears safe, so be it.

BTW even their sub 100$ models offer the same ammount of isolation :open_mouth:

Unfortunately I don’t know where to make custom fit in Mexico…

ive had these for the past maybe 10 years now and they still in good nic, nothing gone wrong with them and they sound awesome imo. i paid around £120 for them back then so obviously theyve dropped in price..
