Best program/s for Drum 'n Bass production?

I’m a DnB/Trance DJ but want to start producing some DnB, I haven’t done anything like this before (apart from Ejay back in the day :roll_eyes:slight_smile: and was wondering what programs I could use and if anyone has any tips or websites that would be useful.

Thanks!

Anybody?

it depends on how much money you want to spend.

Fruity Loops, Reason, Cubase, Logic. They’re all good.

But it’s what plug-ins you use with them that dictates better sounds and FX.

I’ve got fruity loops, do you know any websites that have tutorials or any good plugins to use?

thanks

Check the forums bro. More than enough info already on here.

I have looked.
Im downloading a few sample packs but I want some advice off someone that already produces drum n bass.

Check youtube for tutorials on creating bass sounds on pretty much any soft synth.

Programming beats for D n’ B is a different story… Know your breaks.

I need more advice please, I have now got some samples, but shouldn’t I be creating my own drum/bass/synth loops? for example, in a sample pack I have, there are some good basslines but only 1 section if you understand what I mean, the ‘next bit’ of the bass loop isn’t there.

What virtual instruments should I use? I know Native Instruments have a few good ones but for drum n bass which ones are good?

thanks

Here’s another virtual MPC if your into controllerism. Its from SoniVox and is called the Pulse. A bit expensive but looks like it gets the job done.

Cheers!

Thanks but I want advice on how to start, look at my previous post.

When just starting out I would just use loops for the drums.

To create your baselines use NI Massive. The wave tables allow you to get those morphing sounds. The excelent tube effects, and scream filters help a lot. Plus the synth comes with several patches that are perfect for drum and bass. You’ll quickly find yourself saying “so that’s where that sound comes from”.

Layer it with a sub bass using a sample or low cpu synth of your choice.

DAW is your choice. Ableton, Cubase, FL Studio, and ProTools are the popular options.

Okay, but after this how do I make my own drum loops? I’ve tried but I can’t get it to sound right.
I’m just confused because there’s so much going on in FL

I’m also getting clipping when playing samples in the browser, why is this?!
and the volume also fluctuates for no reason, goes really loud then quiet again if I keep on playing something.

I’ve used FL Studio for about five years now, and actually I’ve started using ableton this week.

In regards to the best program to make DnB, it really is all up to you. You can use any DAW to make any kind of EDM, you just have to pick the one that works best with your work flow.

While I can’t recommend any specific sites for tutorials, if you are still stumped for creating your own drum loops, open the “Club Basic” template and put in a pattern like this one:

From there, just start experimenting with hi hats. It takes a lot of time to get that sound in your head. Trust me though. You’ll get there.

Do you have a limiter on the master channel? With some templates, FL automatically places a limiter on your track. This might be why your volume is fluctuating.

Look on the mixer and on the master channel. It might be on the bottom slot.

If you ever want any advice or help, feel free to shoot me a PM.

This topic has been discussed, everywhere. A quick google search should point you in the right direction. I would suggest picking up FL Studio and use the various vsti’s for it.

Bunch of really good, yet free vsti’s here:

can’t believe I missed out Ableton and Pro Tools.:disappointed::smiley:

On youtube for Fl.Studio

Thanks guys, in particular ‘Lambox’, that beat is the classic dnb ‘boom…chi…boom..chi’ beat. I guess I could make some good loops if I get some good drum hit samples.

deviantdigi, I have looked on google, haven’t found anything good about making DnB…

You might want to just watch those videos. Even if they won’t teach you drum and bass specifics, they will help you start to understand how DAWs work. Even if every tutorial on the planet focuses on how to make house music (they don’t - trust me), you can still apply what you learn about house music to make drum and bass.

You don’t really want to make drum loops from scratch. Not for dnb. Instead you wasn’t to take existing loos and slice it up into the pattern you want.

Just use the kiss method. Keep it sample stupid. Professional engineers have done all the hard work for you by recording live drums. For dnb its not as useful to make you’re own loops from one hit samples. The patterns are too complicated and won’t sound as good as sliced up loops.
